ugh, places where a mouse would come from?

For the first time ever in the house i grew up in, we saw a mouse in the basement. my parents have been living here for 35 years and this is the first time we've spotted one. we're suspecting it came in through the basement door when it was open, we only open it to go in and out but who knows... my only other hunch is that it could have came in through the window that has an AC in it, but it's sealed up pretty well.


could there be some new hole in the wall that a mouse can get through? how would we even start finding where it would be? I started packing up all my stuff to move out today and it scurried from behind my desk when i was doing stuff, startled me. hopefully when i get all my stuff moved out we can eliminate alot of its hiding spots, but i dont really have much stuff, just big furniture.

we have one humane trap, a ramp that goes up to my trash can that has peanut butter in it from when i first spotteed it, and 5 other traps tom & jerry style that are going to nuke it from orbit that we picked up later. i hope it chooses the humane one, its kind of cute, and i dont want to clean the guts up!

Think of the size of hole needed and then divide by 4. They'll fit through the smallest of openings.

Had a bat nesting under a window unit that got in the upstairs bathroom. Wish I had a video of the wife freaking out. Anyway, bat=mouse with wings so x3 on the a/c.

Don't use poison because they can die inside the walls. It can also make dogs and cats sick if they eat the mouse.

You'd be surprised where they can get in. We had then for years before finally discovering these was a gigantic hole in our foundation, hidden by drywall. They can get through some pretty tight spots though.

You're not going to find "the spot". It could be the size of a freaking dime. 1 mouse (though there are likely more) is hardly the end of the world. Kill it and move on.

I had a mouse problem a couple years ago... never did find where they were coming from, but I put cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil around anywhere I suspected and removed any possible sources of food (anything outside the fridge went into hard plastic containers)

Yeah, these things can come in damn near anywhere. And if they want to, they'll just chew a hole wherever it's convenient.
