Ugh, my roommate is a pain in the arse

My roommate never likes anything. I like the guy as a person, but dammit, he won't accept anything. I showed him "The Princess Bride" tonight. He had never seen it and had heard good things about it. He sees it and then he says "well that wasn't very good, there was no story or plot." Ok, "The Princess Bride" is not the greatest movie in the world, but I at least believe it to be a nice story.

This seems to be typical. He dislikes most foods. He won't eat the following: beef, pork, bananas, oranges, anything ethnic, anything spicy (spicy deemed as having black pepper), peppers (including bell peppers), mushrooms, snickers, soda, apple juice, Snickers, fast food, all junk food, tea, coffee, Tang, cereal with sugar already in it, ect. ect.

He dislikes dances, most types of music, sports (he doesn't know jack about sports, it's painful), ect.

He likes the following: Harry Potter, violin music/classical music, reading about how college sucks, the color green, Rocky and Bullwinkle, hmmm, that's about it.

He has worn the exact same model of shoe for 11 straight years. He usually spends zero time going anywhere else then the library, cafeteria, the music building (to practice) and his classes.

First off, I like my roommate. He is great in that he never bothers me, could be broken in half in a minute and is about as clean as clean can be.

He wants to be a foreign diplomat for the US Government. Here's where I get somewhat annoyed. He refuses to try most things new, he almost scorns anything new or popular. He believe cell phones' radiation will give him cancer (as will microwaves --> says he read it in the paper, hence must be true). He has never done anything outside in nature. He has never really done anything in America. Why should he be a diplomat? Pond scum is more exciting than my roommate. He's not even worth doing anything with. He loves to play the martyr card, "oh, woe is me, blah blah blah."

I've offered to take him fishing, camping, hiking, to a sports game, show him movies, try different music, SOMETHING to get him to crawl out of his cave.

I guess I'm just a mean person, an arse for even thinking that anything with him is wrong. Shame on me. Yes, I know that I sound like an arse. But at the same token I feel I can really give my roommate something to help him/enlighten him. It's sad to see someone with his brains (1570 on SAT, 3.680 GPA) be such a bland shadow of a human. Yes, yall can flame away on me. I just gotta tell someone of this, I guess I am just shocked at such ability being wasted by his damn arrogance.

I just wish he would wake up and realize that there is a world out there. Is that too much to ask?

If he doesn't realize that it sucks. Why are you so concerned what he does?

Rule of thumb.

Friends or people that you "like" don't necessarily make good roomates.
