Ugh! Medicine commercials

You know, those damn commercials that say take this pill to make your pecker grow, take this pill to quit smoking and on and on. Then they say side effects may include sniffing your own carpet and whacking off the dog. The following year you see some schmuck lawyer commercial say, "did you take putzoafed? Call 1-800-we-screw-you and we'll get the money you deserve."

We are a pill popping society. The pharmaceuticals and scum bag lawyers are laughing all the way to the bank.

That's my Internet rant. :colbert: It's just this one damn commercial keeps coming on and I'm just sick of this shit. How about you fuckers cure cancer!

Expensive shit! http://www.goodrx.com/jardiance

TBH Px medical adds on TV need to be made illegal, it just leads to over and improper medication

your doc will tell you what meds you need to take, not the TV

Hey look, it's the same rant I've heard from 75% of stand up comedians

how fucking enlightening and original

Cry me a river. I have to take a pill that is $700/month for a bottle of 30 pills.

And no. I don't have a choice.

Of course, I only pay $10/month, but I feel for my health insurance company 😛

huh? the other policy holders is who you should feel for. What you think the insurance company is paying for it?

From what I understand... Yes.

There is little "special pricing" for medication that doctors/hospitals give to insurance companies. Hence why co-pays for medications is going up substantially.

According to my insurance website:
Prescription Cost: $ 712.45
Paid By Plan: $ 647.45
My Co-Pay: $50 (Have a coupon that makes it $10 though, so the drug company is footing $40)

And those billions of dollars they spend on the ads don't come from nowhere...

you are not getting what I am saying. Insurance is the policy holders paying for each other's unforeseen bills. The company just administers the fund and skims off the top.

Some truth to that, but overall, the company can't change the pricing mid-year. If all of a sudden everyone in our company pool became sick and had to get expensive help, the insurance company would be down for a loss.

and next year premium goes up. And they deny a lot of claims.

It's all about making you aware of common problems the majority of the population have in order to have you buy into expensive medical solutions you don't really need.

"Ask your doctor about..." = "Tell your doctor that this medication is definitely what you need."

Gotta love advertising.

I was watching someone online and a commercial came up, and it includes a survey.
"How often does <company> recommend replacing your shock absorbers?"
Then the ad plays.
They don't make a recommendation about replacing them at any point in time.
"<Company> recommends inspecting your shocks every 50,000 miles."

I guess that way they can't have anyone saying that they gave potentially false information about replacing anything.
What are you supposed to remember though?
"Do a thing to shocks every 50,000 miles. I guess replace them? Yeah, that sounds right."

Marketing.........ugh.

Indeed. Pharma spends big dollars on advertising, which they calculate as part of the cost of drug development, and shove on to the patient/insurance. That money would be much better served by either lowering the cost of meds, or going into new development.

you have no clue.....honestly just stop!!

He's not wrong. If the pool comprised of your employer's employees sees an increasing pattern in overall usage, the insurance co will likely renegotiate higher premium prices for same coverage (or same prices for reduced coverage) during the next contract renewal.

I'd like a ban on all advertising. When I need something I'll find it myself. No car/food/drink/furniture commercial is going to make me buy their product. Save the money on expensive endorsements, catchy tunes, etc. Just doesn't matter, I fast forward or change the channel when it comes on anyway.

Personally I'm fond of the ones that say

If you have taken this drug and died, you may be entitled to money. 😱

You would deny corporations their right to freedom of speech? You fascist, corporations are people too.

Anyway the only time I see ads are when I'm visiting my parents or some other old people. TV, pfft. I have Netflix and the internet for basically anything I'd want to watch.
