Ugh...I'm getting glasses.

I've been having trouble reading signs off in the distance for a few years now (it's not too bad but I do notice it) and it is even worse after I've been sitting in front of a computer for a while so I went to an optometrist today and they ran the full battery of tests on me and, as I suspected, I need glasses. Man, this is going to take some getting used to. My sight up close is 15/20 (or 20/15...I forget), it's far away that I have a problem with.

What's wrong with glasses? I know some extremely attractive women that go gaga for men wearing classy frames.

(20/15)

I'm going with the classy frame route. I'm in my early 40s so I'm just happy I've made it this long without glasses. Honestly, my eyesight isn't that bad but I know it's not great either. I've never worn glasses my entire life, I'm just getting sick of squinting to read things that are far away. For the record, I've never failed a DMV reading test.

20/15 would mean you have better than normal distance vision. If you're nearsighted, you'd be 20/30 or worse.

Generally, if you have only a mild correction, optometrists/opthalmologists won't recommend contacts. And yes, glasses can look pretty trendy. I have a friend who is now 40, has had perfect vision his whole life, and I only recently found out that his glasses are non-corrective. He just likes the look of them 🙂.

I would take glasses over contacts if I need them - I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of contacts for the sake of not wearing glasses. My GF wears contacts and they're a hassle TBH.

They are kind of annoying, I only use mine for running or if it's an extremely sunny day and I want to wear sunglasses. 😎

Wait a couple more years, and you'll be getting bifocals. I've been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old, but it still pissed me off when I had to break down and get bifocals when I was 45.

Why wouldn't you get contacts unless your eyes are sensitive and dry out easily.

Well, in my case, it was because I was working as a mechanic, with frequent exposure to fuels. Ever get something nasty in your eye, while you're wearing your contacts?

I have. And that's why I wear glasses now, instead of contacts. I miss them, but I'd miss my sight more.

Funny, that wasn't a part of the vision test...

I'll get back to you after I get my vision enhancers.

Hi Def?

:^D

I've had corrective lenses since I was about 14. I had contacts for a little whle when I was in karate, but they're a PITA. I prefer glasses.

Happened to me too. I had great vision until I was in my Late 20's then needed glasses mainly for night driving.. now pretty much for any driving or anything involving reading or I want to see clearly more than 3 feet away.

I remember when it was made official that I needed glasses, by an eye specialist. I had this problem where I kept having to blink multiple times per second. My eyes always felt really cold and weird and it just made me have to blink all the time. Turns out it's because I could hardly see, and I just never realized it. I was mad at the fact that I needed them but I'm used to it now. It just sucks if I want to do anything intense like go to an amusement park, especially a water park.

It's when I put on the first pair of glasses... WOAH, I could see stuff I did not realize I could not see. It was quite something.
