UGH!!! I have one month and 2 weeks before I leave my current job

I am going insane~! I am giving my current employer my 1 and a half month notice that I will be leaving. I plan to do this on the 4th of jan. How do I keep my sanity until I leave? I am leaving on good terms(well that is what they think, but in reality I am leaving because the store is being run into the ground, and I want no part of it. Also, I am moving about six hours away to be closer to my friends and family) so I am giving them enough time to train a new manager. It really sucks when you are a majority of one, yet no one can see it. Also, it sucks to be smarter than the GM. I guess I will think of how much fun it will be to see my friends again. Of course, I still have the fun of finding a new job, and I need to buy a new car(me and the wife are getting a divorce).

Be careful in giving notice... many many employers are telling folks to clean out their drawers and leave immediately, if they get a notice of future resignation.

Happened to two friends in the last three weeks (so I found out last night)... will probably happen to me this week.

Heh. In California if an employer does that, he has to pay the employee all the salary he/she would have earned during the notice period.

So hope that they do that to you!

But, yeah... Short-Timers disease sucks. I've had it a few times over the years...

NO,NO, I don't have that. I just hope I don't "lose it" and go postal. I am a very patient person, but lately my buffer for b.s. is running close.

have you thought about being a voice in how things are run ? You are a manager, no ?

Sounds more like you have other [more important] reasons to leave... like friends... and being away from "this life" now that you're getting a divorce.

Regardless, maybe if you still have a mission for the next month.5, like suggesting how things should be / can be... then the time will go by easier.

Right, but when you KNOW you're leaving, it's difficult to stay calm.

The BS bag shrinks the closer to your last day you get... 😉

I wish this were true, but things that are beyond my control prevent this. I work for my father in law, so every other manager I work with has knife in hand, aiming at my back. For some reason, they think I am out to "get them", maybe it is a job security issue. Who knows? All I ever wanted to do is contribute, and do whatever I could to help.

that is way too much notice.

Not really, I work for the family, so I feel it is neccessary.

I still think that's too much notice. My last job I gave 5 weeks notice before I left and I can tell you after 2 weeks I wanted to leave bad!!!! the last 3 weeks were just plain hell, I never wanted to wake up and go to work and when I was at work I so unmotiviated I didn't really do anything. by the last week I just up and left and never came back. A month and a half notice will be very hard for you since you already want to leave

fvck notice 😉

when I quit my last job, I gave them 3 days notice -- gave notice on a Tuesday after lunch, and my last day was Friday. I just told my employer that my new employer needed me to start as soon as possible, which was pretty close to the truth.

don't you mean you're leaving THE current employer?

Nah, you guys made me see that I went WAY overboard with that. I have actually "lightened up".
No really, I have decided that I need to worryabout more imporatnt things.

UPDATE: Well, I called the inlaws today, and told them I would be leaving on Feb. the 15th. They are going to call the resteraunt in dfw, and see if corporate has a spot for me! It was not as bad as I thought it would be, but when you have worked for someone for 8 years, it is difficult to part ways 🙁
