Question Ugh, hotmail

Mailbox filled, haven't been able to get new mail for a week. Deleted a lot, doesn't make any difference. Tried right-clicking deleted and junk folders to empty them over and over, it doesn't do anything. Tried logging out and in, no effect.

Googling said to click files/tools/something about emptying folders, but no such function exists. Ya, I could just open a new, better e-mail account, but have a lot tied to this one, rather just get it working.

How do you access your Hotmail? Webmail? Microsoft Outlook? Other email client software?

Perhaps only deleting your local copy of each message (instead of deleting the server-side copies).

So, I took the minutes to select over a thousand deleted e-mails and shift-delete them; they disappeared. Then I did the same for junk e-mail. Then the deleted folder had all the e-mails back.

Edit: Then I did 'empty folder' again, and this time it actually seems to be doing something. We'll see.

When you "Empty Folder" the deleted items are moved to a 30-day delete folder. You need to click "Recover items deleted from this folder" then click empty folder again to permanently delete.

Also the sweep function is very useful for deleting a ton of junk in your inbox, it will delete everything from that sender.

So, the process is, delete items, 'empty folder', 'recover items', then 'empty folder' again? It can't be that broken a process?

Not sure I've seen sweep. But hotmail is now hung on 'emptying folder' about halfway through it.

That can't be the only way to get hotmail to delete items?
Never said it was. That's what I use and I have very good control over all my email. Stuff I don't want never reaches my PC. Just now I checked my POP box and there were 14 emails. I deleted all but one. 🙂 BTW, I delete mail with MailWasher Pro, not my email client.

Not sure I would call it broken, it is a safeguard against accidental deletion. I am not certain that those emails actually count against your quota. AFAIK they will automatically be purged after some amount of time.

Sweep is in the top bar where the "Delete", "Archive", "Junk" etc button would be when you are viewing an email.
