Ugh, got some lye in my eye on accident.

I work at a restaurant and was changing out one of the 5 gallon buckets of "caustic cleaning agent" for the dish washer. Well I pulled off one of the caps and a few drops flung up into my eye. Bah, 20 minutes later(bucket said 15 but I did it a little longer just in case) of rinsing my eye out with cold water my eye is a little dry but my visions fine.

FFS good thing its watered down (its liquid form compared to solid) by the manufacture otherwise I could be blind in one eye...

//getting it out of the way... cool story bro.

I got gasoline in both my eyes pretty bad once. Hurt quite a bit for about 15 minutes, was fine after.

Yeah you're lucky it wasn't full strength or you could easily have lost that eye. When I read the title I thought god DAMN that must hurt!

wow... just reading your title, I can say I literally feared for your eye without reading any more.

Regardless of how your eye feels later or even tomorrow - schedule an appointment with an optometrist/ophthalmologist... and make sure to include the Lye part, that might help in getting an immediate appointment.

That shit is no joke. Can't really guarantee you still won't go blind in that eye, but you may have flushed it appropriately and rapidly enough, plus it being diluted liquid may have helped.

Well at least you weren't drinking a beer at the time. Then you'd have lye in your eye AND a tear in your beer.

Glad it didn't turn out too bad, but I'd definitely have it checked out just to be safe.

Tell me about it, I had completely forgotten what chemicals was in the actual liquid. I did it and was like well fuck better rinse my eye out so I can read wtf was in the detergent, got to the sodium hydroxide part was like FFUUUUUU---- rinse moars. Luckily sink was like 2 feet behind me as well.

I rinsed it again when I got home more thoroughly in the shower.

Then I did a bit of reading on it and apparently in the solid form (eg. powder I assume) I could have gone blind x.O (more appropriate for left eye)
