UGH, DON'T BUY the Deus Ex "special edition" @ bestbuy, it's really a "PREVIEW edition"

I bought the Deus Ex SPECIAL EDITION recently @ bestbuy for $10. Several days later, I am happily playing away, when suddenly a screen pops up that basically says "Thank you for playing the PREVIEW EDITION." WTF!

Anyways, I'm writing an email to b!tch to their customer service. Just warning y'all.

Yeah, anything "Special" means "extended demo"
If you read carefully, it should say it's some kind of shortened version on the case,

that's what pisses me off. It doesn't!!! It just says "Special Limited Edition." How was I suppose to know the "Limited" referred to LIMITED GAMEPLAY.

Being that the game of the year " " edition is selling for $10-15, you really should be entitled to your money back even though the confusion could be labeled "your fault" since it really IS misleading.

Yes, I think I'll take it back. Even just for store credit, since I wasn't dazzled by the preview anway. I got an email for a customer service dude at Eidos, who directed me to b!tch at Activision, since it was they who did the marketing for the game.

Very sleazy marketing since people expect a "special" edition to have more features, and even "special limited edition" could mean a deluxe edition with a limited print run.

This was activision's response:

If you have the CD that we put out it should say "Special Limited
Edition"
on the front. The "limited" refers to the fact that the game is not
the
complete version.

Well, MR. John Cowden... When I rule the world, we will meet again... Yes...

On another note, there'll be no returning the CD, because being the dumb@ss I am, I threw the receipt away a few days before I found out it was a castrated Deus Ex. I even remember thinking "hmm, there's nothing on this receipt I'll ever want to return, and I paid cash, so I'll just toss it"

That's why I never throw out the receipt. The game (even limited) is worth playign through though- give it some time.

You could return the game eventually if you get your cc statement and go bitch....

hrm, i saw that and thought it was a special limited edition.. meaning they only going to release so many of them... probably has some new missions or something. heh

Yeah, that's f'ed up. They shouldn't even be allowed to publish those "trial version" games.

You know what else is messed up? I can go to Fry's and get Serious Sam: Special Edition (I think it's the first 7 or 9 levels or something) for $9.99...or I can look on the shelf right next to it and get Serious Sam: The First Encounter for, guess what, $9.99! :|

not for the $15 I paid, when I could've gotten the full version for $15!!! And I don't think Bestbuy accepts anything less than the receipt. Do they?

The "Limited" Edition goes up to the part where you escape from UNATCO. Which to me, seemed pretty far, but I heard there's much more afterwards.

Oh, Here's another letter from Activision. After I responded to that punk JOHN COWDEN by saying "Special Limited Edition" implied it was "Special and available for a Limited time."

_______________
The box does say Special Limited Edition. It might have been slightly more
clear to starte it as Special, Limited Edition - it si a special, limited
version f the full software. I can see that this would be easy to
misunderstand, but it was not meant to be misleading. if you were mislead, I
apologize.

Well, I'll at least give Chris Knox some brownie points for apologizing. But I'm still miffed. I'm starting my own personal ban on activision.

I bought mine at Target, which was a very bad mistake concerning their return policy on opened software:

Some items cannot be returned if opened, including music, movies, video games, software and collectibles.

I think, however, that these stripped-down games are only limited to Deus Ex and Serious Sam, if I'm not mistaken.

There are a lot more but they are older games (such as the various Tomb Raiders) in those "jewel case" packages. Hopefully this won't become a trend with more recent titles. I haven't noticed any others yet besides the two mentioned.

I'm glad this doesn't apply to cars and trucks in show rooms!
