Ugh, Comcast Internet has been going on and off for the past 9 hours.

Internet comes on, gets real slow, then goes out and I have to reset the modem. Cable light flashes for about 10min before going solid. Repeat x 100.

Check the signal levels, you may be on the fringe and need to have someone come out and service your line.

How do I do that? It's been working fine for the past 6 years or so.

That's your cable modem's status page. If it's a nice modem, it'll tell you what your signal levels are at. A downstream power level below -15dBmV is bad, as is an upstream value over 56dBmV or so. If you're close (within a dBmV or two) you're probably riding the edge.

I'm in Sonoma County and my wireless has been dropping quite regularly since yesterday. By regularly, I mean more than once an hour at least.
(I can only assume it's on their end, since nothing has changed at all on my end.)

Solar flares don't care about communications.

on a better note, they're probably doing upgrades and giving you more speed.

Most likely they are doing updates in your area. This happened around me for a week or so. I just happened to be in an office next to a staging area for their trucks, at the same time I was having problems, they had about 100 trucks and tons of workers in the area. If you call them, they will most likely give you some money back, but they will not admit that they are doing line work - that would be too difficult for some reason.

It will not be a problem for long. But annoying that they never contact their current customers to notify them of network upgrades. On the plus side, after the upgrades, I have seen some downloads in the 20+Mb range and uploads of around 5Mb.

It's back on now, but it doesn't seem any faster.

Upload is fast, but it was fast before the outage. BTW, I wish my upload was that fast back at school.

At least you have high speed internet. Fastest internet that I can get is 1.5 down/ 128kb up DSL. In 2008! In a city of 150,000. What the hell?

This crap happens with my Comcast Internet too. They are so gracious when I call that they are willing to compensate me for one full day of service provided I call them back to confirm how long it took to get stable once it kicks back in. Of course, that means I have to spend god knows how long in the customer service queue again. I really do hate them. I cannot wait until Verizon FIOS is available in my area.
