ABC News has learned the woman who made the decision to OK the mix is a former undersecretary of agriculture, Joann Smith. It was a call that led to hundred of millions of dollars for Beef Products Inc., the makers of pink slime.
When Smith stepped down from the USDA in 1993, BPI’s principal major supplier appointed her to its board of directors, where she made at least $1.2 million over 17 years.
Smith did not return ABC News’ calls for comment and BPI said it had nothing to do with her appointment. The USDA said while her appointment was legal at the time, under current ethics rules Smith could not have immediately joined the board.
I love ground turkey for just about anything but in hamburger form. Hamburgers only work with ground beef.
I'm contemplating getting a meat grinder attachment for my KitchenAid mixer. Would be cool to take some decent cuts of meat from Costco and grind some fresh hamburgers
White Slime
i find this to be the most disgusting part of the story
Will most meat markets grind whole cuts for you? If so, what's a good cut to grind for hamburgers?

+1, unfortunately there are thousands of cases like this.
It's going to get to a point where we have to raise and slaughter our own meat. It's pretty bad how they add crap in the stuff we eat. Is it that hard to actually do it right? I can understand the mass produced fast food stuff, but I would expect the supermarket stuff to be proper. It's not like they're selling millions per day per store like mcdonalds.
The sheeple don't know any better or have enough sense to care... There is a rapidly growing movement of folks who support organic food and natural methods of food production...
Is it any wonder cancer and other diseases are around... Certainly, all the chemicals people are eating aren't helping us all get healthier... It's greed plain and simple that's leading to these nasty food practices...
