Has anyone taken this? If so, anyone have any pointers for crash analyzing? I'm thinking i'll get around a 7 on my essays, but for my Multiple Choice, i'm not sure. Also, I heard someone say something about if you get the wrong answer, you lose more points than if you leave it blank? Is there any truth to that?

I took the AP Eng. Lit. exam Monday. They took off points for incorrect answers on that. It's probably the same for Lang.

Every answer you get wrong you lose 1/4 point, so completely guessing is mathematically not to your advantage. Eliminate some answers so you can guess effectively.

Also, I don't think spelling "language" wrong is a good start.

Edit: Ah you caught yourself...good stuff :)

been a few years since i took that, so i don't remember specifics, but i DO remember it being the easiest of the AP exams that i took.... and i'm an electrical engineering major, so that maybe that should take some of the pressure off ;) best thing for a test is to go into it with a clear and relaxed state of mind

Hmm said to myself i was done with posting . . .

That said, I took the AP language test some four years ago, and the simplest advice I can give you is to make your essays to the point. Have something to say, and say it. Draw every paragraph back to the thesis.

Nothing to be said for helping on multiple choice, but if memory serves, you don't lose points for guessing wrong.

best of luck; if you have any other questions PM me, though I don't know how much assistance I can offer.

Everything is symbolic of sex. When analyzing anything, if you can relate it to sexual symbolism, you'll do well.

As for the scoring, I know for the SAT you get (or used to get?) 1 point for a correct answer, 0 for a skip and -1/4 for a wrong answer. I never bothered to leave any blank despite what strategists often tell you.
I forget if the AP tests use the same scoring scheme.

Language = teaching stylistic analysis and rhetorical skills. The test is basically 3 prompts about something in which you have to write either a persuasive or a stylistic analysis essay in 120 minutes, and a MC part where you read a passage, and answer questions about it's style, point, rhetorical skill, etc. Kinda like Lit, except Language is broader, using letters, essays, etc.

Ah. I need to incorporate some George W Bush-like strategery to do the MC. My teach isn't exactly the most qualified person to teach it

My main problems with essay is i can't analyze that well. Err...I can, except I run out of things to talk about and ramble on the points that I do figure out. I don't know very many diff. types of stylistic devices or rhetorical strategy, which doesn't help at all. Hmmm. Maybe I will try and relate everything to sex. :(

Damn. I am pretty sure I could do an AP US History Test, and get at least a 3 , and I haven't even taken the course. I'm not sure if i should even take it next year, going to a college US History class would be better, wouldn't it?

Crap! Kind of sad that I dont remember which test I took. It was the only one available as a class at my school at the time. The next year the test I didnt take became the junior english class and the one I took remained the senior english class; I like to think i took the harder one. Anyway I got a 5. Relax, you arent gonna increase your knowledge by any lengths any times soon. Assuming you are in some way logical narrow down your multiple choice and try to find consistency in the questions. IF you dont know an answer look at similar questions. Oh and Fvcking relax

Just took it. Yuck, 3 hour exams are not fun! MC wasn't too bad, but my essays were pretty pathetic. Used 1 hour for the first essay, 40 for the second, and had only 20 for the third so it was kinda just me rambling on so as to fill up the most space in the least amount of time. Yeah, have to study for the US History exam for tommorow now :( Good luck on your exam!

WTF you at, England or something?

I took it at 9 and got out at 1. The MC had passages on a waterfall and on a tornado, those I burned thru. But there was one with some lady in the 1800's that was killer, so i skipped 2 questions on that. For the essays, I fvcked myself, I couldn't concentrate on any of them. Do we all have the same test? My essays were on Lincoln, a czech writer, and Virginia Woolf :(

yes, we all have the same tests, which is why they are so paranoid about the booklets getting out. i heard that last year someone on the east coast sold the answers to people on the west.....

anyways, as to the test, i thought it sucked. i'm not too good at lit, and my teacher wasnt really trying to prepare use for this test, o well
the MC was pretty easy, especially the last two. However the one with that lady was freaking impossible, i skipped it and went on. on my essays, well, let's not go there

computer science was pretty easy, but insanely long, it got really boring, especially the free response

on history i think i did good on the mc, but i dunno about the essays, especially the DBQ. That question really sucked. i had evidence, but no real good thesis to tie it all together, the other two essays were pretty easy though

hope everyone did good, and i wish you luck for exams next week:) mine are all over (for this year)

[sarcasm]Actually, I went to school at 12 midnight to take my exam[/sarcasm]

FYI, I took the exam in Asia, and contrary to Tdawg951, people outside the US receive differnt essay questions than those in the US, although the MC are the same. That woman author from 1778 was such a pain to figure out

I took AP Language junior year, and ap lit senior year.

I got a 4 on the language....
Some advice:
>Keep track of time when you're writing your essays
>Don't go on (too many) tangents -- stick with thesis
>Don't screw up on your analysis (read and reread the passage they gave you. prewriting is a big help to organize your thoughts. 120 min for essay portion I think right? so about 40/40/40. i suggest at least 5-10 min prewriting, unles syou have mad analysis skills)
>They take off points if you miss the MC. if you can narrow down your answer, then guess.

oh yes, make sure your writing is legible. senior year when I took ap lit, i got a 2 (i was thinking to myself, WTF? how'd I score lower on this when it seemed easier?!).

My teacher simply remarked "how legible was your writing?"

...yup, don't get screwerd over with penmanship...

(penmanship...blah. that was why i leaned how to type fast. oh well. I'm a physics major. I mainly deal with numbers :D)

Good luck.
