Good luck with that. ;)

I'm 27 and the acne won't stop.

A relative of mine finally found the solution to make her acne go away: menopause. I have the distinct impression that that won't work for me.

Acne/zits are bacterial in nature. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Keep your face clean. Wash it whenever there is oil/sweat buildup or anything gets spilled etc. on it.

Stay away from the chemical products, i.e. clearasil/stridex/etc - they just make things worse. Get neosporin or some other antibiotic ointment on those things to kill the bacteria. I recommend doing this mostly overnight, as it doesn't do to wander thorough public with goo on your face.

Wash your pillowcases and bed linens regularly.

Do NOT touch your face with your hands regularly. If you have a habit of stroking your chin or whatever while in thought, STOP. Your hands have god knows how much bacteria on them - this is especially important after trips to places where a lot of hands get exchanged on the same surfaces, such as the gym.

If you shave your face to baby-butt smooth, STOP. This is creating small wounds in your skin which in turn become zits. Use a sideburn trimmer at its lowest settings and shave to "sandpaper" - close enough to be barely/non-visible but not smooth to the skin.

is the JD to be used as an astringent or an anesthetic?

Anesthetic of course. Silly question.

but the correct answer is to go see a dermatologist if it means that much to you (or just use a spot of make-up)

And if it fails there, it may also be used as an aphrodisiac.

Do not use oil based creams, worst advice ever.

Who the hell said anything about oil based creams? Anti-bacterial ointments may be mineral-oil based, but mineral oil doesn't have lipids in it, which means there's nothing for the bacteria to feed off of.

You dolt.

Know what white heads are? The pus come from dead neutrophils that your immune system is TRYING to kill the bacteria in the zit with. A zit is just a small wound that's become infected with staph bacteria - hence the redness and white blood cells - it's an immune response. Antibiotic ointments and moisture-promoting balms are known to assist in wound healing. I would know. Wound care is part of what I do professionally.

Zits are small infected wounds. Get rid of the infection, the wound starts healing on its own. As soon as you start looking at it in that context, you'll no longer make bad acne-fighting decisions.

This idea that skin oils are bad bad bad is stupid stupid stupid. They're an integral part of the body's immune system, and they're constantly present. If they weren't, your skin would crack and break during movement rather than stretching.

Bacteria are constantly on the surface of your skin feeding off skin oils. It doesn't become a problem until they get into a break in the skin. The body responds with an inflammatory response, which results in the redness and pus formation.

Oils are not the problem. Infection is.

Meh, there are really no known solutions to acne. It really depends on what kind you have, your age, what your diet is, how much stress you're under, etc, etc. As others have suggested, go see a dermatologist, but don't expect it to disappear in a month. It could take months, if not years...And then have break-outs later on in life as well.

He probably is, but only because he doesn't want you to get pregnant.

If you've always had it, chances are your date won't notice it much since 'that's what you look like'. Kill any whiteheads tho, lol.

good luck. I remember the stresses I had with cystic acne, until accutane killed it, and it wasn't fun.

Wash your face with a cleanser once a day. Use moisturizer as well (this may seem paradoxical since it feels like you're coating something else onto your face). Dont touch your face. If things don go away, your doc might write a prescription for some antibiotics or some zit cream. I would stay away from accutane and from teh sounds of it, no responsible dermatologist would write you a script based on the mild symptoms that you have.
