So I woke up this morning and checked my email, and one of the messages was from a "mailer-Daemon" saying my "mail was undeliverable," and had an attachment of something.eml. Since I had emailed several people whom I have never corresponded with before, I assumed it was one of my emails that I had sent that had backfired. So I opened up the attached .eml file to see who it was that I was writing to, when I noticed that this email had two files attached. The red warning lights went off and I immediately closed it, but I think I was too late. Thereafter, I was unable to connect to the internet or install Norton AV. (It figures, I had just uninstalled NAV a few days before this because I was troubleshooting my computer)

So I booted off the Norton CD and ran a virus scan but so far nothing. And of course I cant go online to Norton Housecall or anything...

So, does anyone know of a virus like this, and more importantly, does anyone know if it is possible to install NAV on one machine, and check the disk drives of another computer on the same network? I'm thinking its probably not possible but I'm going to try it regardless soon.

you know what, I NEVER used AV software before, and I've never had a virus. common sense is all you need... there was a thread poll yesterday about who does and doesnt use AV software. everyone in there ragged on people being stupid for not running it.. well I gave in and downloaded NAV 2002 from my friends ftp and installed it.. waited like 2 damn hours for it to scan 80 gigs of data only for it to find... NOTHING! what a waste of time and system resources.

common sense.. no virii..

Yes. That e-mail is a virus. I got one exactly like it and Norton flagged it before it touched my mailbox. Lesson? Use some type of anti-virus software. Even people who know better than to open unknown attachments need some kind of a safety net. If it hasn't happened to you yet on accident, it probably will sometime in the future.

Hold on...wait a second...I didn't even realize it was you!

The virus in that e-mail is the Klez Virus

You really should know better...oh, I'm going to be talking to you about this in the near future :)
