Even if nothing comes of that, the UFC isn't happy with Aldo and they might keep him on the shelf for a while. So Mendes could fight Edgar or others to retain the 'interim' belt first

the UFC will not keep Aldo on the shelf. soon as he is healthy he will fight the winner of conner/mendez. it's to big a fight for them to pass up. you have one of the last P2P fighters still fighting. no way they are shelving him.

it doesn't matter how technically good of a fighter he is, he doesn't draw worth anything and has done everything in his power to piss off the UFC

the UFC has no motivation to hurry him back out unless it's for Conor to unify the belt so they can be done with him once and for all

In a way i agree, but if he gets the belt he'll be the best promoter/trash talker on earth just like chael, it'll be fun to watch.
