UFC 94: St. Pierre vs Penn 2, Machida vs Silva

Alright, seeing as how the fight's 2 days away, I thought I'd start the thread. First of all, what a fight card! Machida vs Silva is interesting even though he tends to bore the fans with his standoffish, pick-them-apart style...Bonnar always puts on a good show, Fitch'll probably break Gono's arm, Parisyan's been out for a while and the Diaz and Guida fight should be amazing. Nate's young and talented, but Guida's relentless pace will be a good test for Diaz, who takes his time submitting people with his long limbs.

So, what's everyone doing for the fights, the day before the Superbowl??

Dong Hyun Kim!! Go Korea! +250!!
I got BJ Penn for the upset, too
Lines
Lyoto Machida -300
Thiago Silva +200

Stephan Bonnar -175
Jon Jones +135

Georges St Pierre -170
BJ Penn +130

Karo Parisyan -350
Dong Hyun Kim +250

Nate Diaz -125
Clay Guida -105

Jon Fitch -600
Akihiro Gono +350

Manny Gamburyan +100
Thiago Tavares -130

Chris Wilson -350
John Howard +275

Jake O Brien -300
Christian Wellisch +200

Matt Arroyo -180
Dan Cramer +150

Have to put GSP as the favorite. Penn is great at 155, but he's giving up too much at 170, expecially against GSP who clocks in around 185 on fight day.

I'll probably just check out the highlights on youtube afterwards. This one isn't worth $40 IMO.

That's interesting to hear...with their history and how big the characters are, most people I've talked to are really excited about the fight along with the undercard fights. But to each his own, I suppose.

GSP will destroy Penn this time. TKO in rd 2. Machida is so underrated it's not even funny... that guy should hold the title at LHW right now. I hope he rips Silva a new one b/c that cutthroat crap after his wins makes me sick to my stomach.

I don't know about destroy or TKO, but definitely GSP over Penn. GSP needs to stick to his gameplan and not get caught like he did with Serra. He should be able to take him down at will and just ground and pound him. I'm tired of hearing Penn talking sh!t.

It's awesome for people to even look at BJ Penn in the same light as GSP at welterweight. BJ is easily the most gifted MMA technician in the game, no doubt. But he's just too small to take on guys like GSP. Pierre wins most of his fights by size advantage and bullying guys around.

Here's how I see it:

Takedown defenese - EVEN
Striking - Kicks - GSP, Boxing - BJ has the advantage
BJJ - Penn
Wrestling - GSP

People are always talking about how SERIOUS BJ is now and how his cardio has improved so much... well that's true. But they fail to see how much GSP has improved. The guy looked amazing before, but he's at an all-time high right now. If I had money to throw around I'd put a mortgage payment on Pierre w/out hesitation.

One thing is for sure - this is going to be a great fight to watch again.

I really think that the Clay Guida- Nate Diaz fight will be the showstopper. The line is close on that one too. This fight has all the right things going for it : Guida with his unrelenting assault and Diaz with his mad ground skills. I would have loved to have had this fight on Feb. 7th Ultimate Fight Night as the headliner rather than the Joe Lauzon- Jeremy Stephens fight.

On a side note, I hope Manny Gamburyan gets his midget ass beaten silly. Filthy fucker still annoys me when he fought about a year ago and as his opponent was going to touch gloves as a show of sportsmanship, Manny hit the guy. Pure class.

Peace

GSP - Penn
Fight will go at least 4 rounds, with GSP winning by stoppage due to strikes in either the 4th or 5th. I hate BJ Penn and I'd really love to see George just knock him uncoscious, but since Penn's head is made of solid bone and he has no neck, I don't think that will happen. GSP will win though.

Machida - Silva
Machida is annoying as shit to watch since he's so "elusive" (read: runs away). I'm pulling for the underdog here but I think Machida will win by decision.

Guida - Diaz
I think Diaz will submit him. Clay is fun to watch but he's vulnerable to submissions.

Those are the main fights I'm looking to see, but it's a good card overall and I'm going to buy it. It will be my 3rd PPV this month... lol With 93 earlier and the Affliction event last weekend. Expensive month for an mma junkie.

I agree with your assessment of all the fights. GSP will eventually wear BJ out and beat him on the ground. Machida isn't going to get caught by Silva and will pitter-patter his way to a decision....and we'll get to hear Joe Rogan say "elusive" 100 times. Guida is too wild to fight a guy like Diaz. Nate will catch Guida with something b/c Clay leaves himself open like that. Fitch will destroy Gono....which is kind of sad. Karo will win another UD b/c I don't know if he's ever finished an opponent.

I dunno, I still think there's more to the Guida/Diaz fight - he'll rush inside of Nate's long reach and do his usual torrent of punches...his conditioning isn't a question, so he won't tire and get caught too easily. Nate's ground game is awesome, yeah, but I think Guida will put up a good fight.

Machida is AWESOME, I saw a video of him training with his team. His dad looks pure bad ass and nobody was trash talking Silva. His father said "I don't know if my Son will win or loose, but he will be mentally prepared." I like that he doesn't need to or care to talk shit about who he's fighting. And he doesn't fight to impress the crowd. He will dominated this fight and might not lose ever. He's a bad matchup for anyone in the UFC. Watching him fight is poetry in motion. I love to see a good slug fest, but once in awhile I want to watch a fighter who calculates every move. Machida has never lost a round in the UFC, he dominated the shit out of Jacob... I mean Tito. And is only the 2nd person to ever KO Franklin. Even if that wasn't in UFC that's still damn impressive. Machidas accuracy is scary. He only goes for strikes he knows he can connect with and almost never gets hit. I love watching him.

Anyone have a stream for this when it starts?

I know about the MMA TV one with that P2P program which name escapes me at the moment but its pretty low quality.

I guess in in the minority ... I think BJ will take the win in the fourth. Looking forward to the Guida - Diaz and Machida - Silva as well.

TallBill - Hooters show UFCs.Go and grab a pitcher of brew, a basket of delicious ass Curly Fries and some Chicken Wings. They only charge $5 to watch it.

GSP vas botter le derrière de BJ et ça vas être douloureux. Le pauvre petit BJ vas se faire RUSHER.

George St Pierre, le meilleur batailleur de tout les temps.

RB RB

Should be the best fight of the year. It's too bad I can't be home to watch it.

The streets of Hilo are deserted. This shit is bigger than the super bowl here. I'm pulling for BJ of course, but GSP is so much bigger than him. I think it'll go to a decision.

A bit early aint it? Still 90 minutes till the event starts. Time to buy some snacks and head over to the friends.

Pre-fight = pre-drinking.

Anyone got any links to the stream?

My boy Penn is gonna G&P GSP.

Looking forward to the Clay Guida fight as well. That guy has more energy than any other fighter and will be fun to see his 5'7" frame against the lean & tall Diaz.
