Just a friendly reminder that UFC 79 is on tonight! If you can't watch it live, MMA web sites like Sherdog will have live play-by-play action.

War Wand and GSP! 😀 I also hope to see Dean Lister and DeSouza do well, but am not sure what will happen. Sort of disappointed the Sanchez and Palelei fight is on the main card, but it will most likely be a war, so let's see...

Very likely, but we'll have to see if he can go out there and execute against Hughes, who will obviously want to try and put GSP on his back.
 
For those unfamiliar with Wanderlei Silva, look on youtube or elsewhere for videos of what he did to Quiton 'Rampage' Jackson 😀

Edit: hell, look at the clips of his other Pride fights where he literally stomped faces in :Q
 
As most people know, I can't stand UFC, but this is a damn good card. The best UFC card I've seen in a loooong time (years). I'll tell you guys this, I'm sure most people here aren't familiar with him, but don't blink on the Sokoudjou fight. The guy is BAD! I can't wait for that fight!

I think a lot of MMA fans are still waiting to see if Soko is the real deal - sure he has wins against Arona and Little Nog, but the "African Assassin" still IMO has a lot to prove before people can start talking about him in possible title matches. I think someone like Rampage would eat him alive at the moment, but he is so young and his game is still growing that we're not sure what will happen.

Oh, and let's not forget HDNet will show the Yarennoka event on New Year's Eve.

to bad mat got hurt and could nto face hughes. i am hopeing GSP wins though.

As for the other fight i would like to see chuck pull it out. but don't expect it to happen.

The thing about Sokoudjou is that he has a judo background and KOed little Nog and Arona. THAT is the scary part. No one knew Soko when he entered the fight with little Nog, but THAT is how you enter the MMA scene. Knocking out two big names in MMA gets you some serious attention and attention he well deserved. We'll see what he can do today, but I predict another decisive victory for Soko. As for Rampage and Soko, I definitely think he can handle his own against Rampage, even today. Rampage doesn't have the background Soko has. And with that judo background Soko has, Rampage will have to stand up with him, and I'd even give the stand up to Soko. But we'll see what he can do today.

ufc rules are different than pride.

nonetheless, i am still hyped to see chuck vs. silva. hopefully it will be a good fight, unlike chuck vs. rampage.

I think Wand will be able to use his elbows just fine if the fight does actually hit the ground. 🙂

he didn't get his usual 3 month prep for this fight so i don't think gsp will dominate

Even so, he was helping Rashad Evans train for Bisping, and GSP was also training to try and get a slot on the Canadian Olympic wrestling team - he should be just fine.
 
Silva just hasn't looked the same since getting knocked out twice in pride. He is just too tentative. He didn't show his normal aggression....
