yeah, I feel bad that DC is viewed as a belt warmer till he fights jones.
he seems like a great guy.

When is Jones suspension over?

it's very possible we don't see Jones again.

Though i would love to see rumble vs jones.

Jones lost the belt on his own.

DC is a legitimate champion and he won his championship belt in a legitimate fight against another legitimate LHW top contender and until Jones comes back and earns a legitimate title shot DC is the legitimate UFC light heavyweight champion.

Hope this does not go the route of Jones fans being more sore and hypocritical than Patriots fans.

I still think people feel the same with Chris Weidman since the first win against Silva.
Unfortunately, if silva returns and wins the belt back, it'll be tarnished due to his repeated drug test fails this year.
What was Silva's punishment for that?

also, Weidman won vs Silva to take the belt.

how was Weidman's match scored as when he won the rematch?
tko since silva could get up off the canvas? or no contest since silva was too injured to fight?

DC beat the #1 contender.
he did not beat the champion who had successfully defended the belt for 4years!

HUGE difference.

in a lot of people's minds, DC has an interim belt.

He lost because he got old and Chris Weidman only did something somewhat earlier than someone else was going to do anyways eventually.

Chris Weidman is certainly a good fighter but he is nowhere near the fighter that prime Anderson Silva was for 8 years or something like that.

Neither was Jon Jones close to as skilled or dominant as Anderson Silva even if the physical characteristics of Jon Jones meant he was a more powerful fighter than Anderson Silva ever was as a fighter or champion in Pride, Cage Rage, UFC, or what else.

And Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera was the true UFC Heavyweight Champion after Randy Couture retired to avoid him and fight Fedor but how many guys do you see complain about that?

And Jon Jones has never been a true champion due to his constant ducking and constant cheating in every fight he does.

Couture retired as UFC Heavweight Champion and was wanting to wait out his UFC contract so he could fight Fedor in a fight possibly in a Affliction event or something. Well shit went bad and it seems the guys who were involved with Affliction now hate Randy and say he basically did all this talk and meetings and shit and then decided to turn around and sign back with the UFC.

Nogueira would have for sure beat Randy Couture and he more or less got the interim championship when he was basically the true UFC Heavyweight Champion but he was never recognized as such due to Zuffa being whiny bitches about wanting to control everything and prevent Randy Couture from leaving the UFC. And preventing Randy Couture from retiring as champion was Zuffa bullshitting that they controlled what Randy Couture could do with his life.

Jones faced better competition imho, as far as Silva, since he got busted for PED's I think his status as potential P4P best is out the window. He ruined his legacy by taking steroids, and worsened it by going on to lie about it. His MMA accomplishments are now all questionable.

As for DC, he's the paper champ. He didn't beat a champ to win the belt. He's still the champ I'm not insulting him, but that's the correct term for what he is though.

Most professional fighters have used and are still using steroids.

And in fact most or many professional athletes have used and are still using steroids.

Well the new rules will stop that shit, NASC has implemented:

1st time getting busted for PED's in MMA = 3 year ban
2nd offense = 4 year ban
3rd offense = life time ban

That's bullshit that most fighters use, a good number do but many don't.

Amateur sure. And maybe many of the unknown fighters from the regional and minor promotions also. But the idea that most UFC fighters have used steroids is not exaggerated bullshit.

UFC painfully underpays their fighters. It's crazy how Mayweather makes more from 1 fight than the entire UFC roster makes in probably 3 years.

"Daniel Cormier: $180,000 (includes $90,000 win bonus) def. Anthony Johnson: $500,000"
DC only got $90k as a show up fee?! WTF?!

"Rafael Natal: $70,000 (includes $35,000 win bonus) def. Uriah Hall: $14,000"
Hall only $14k?!?!
WTF?!!?!

or am I not thinking of the Uriah that's been in 5 championship fights?
(altho he lost all 5, that's still impressive that he earned a chance for the belt 5 times.)

I think you're thinking of Uriah Faber.

What I'm curious is if both opponents are eligible for the bonus? If that is the case it seems some are way under paid..

I think the win bonus (which is double your show up fee) applies to everyone.
so if rumble won, he would have gotten another $500k

wonder how much Jones got for each title defense win?

It isn't always that. The pot bonus differs between fights. The amount each fighter is paid is a product of how much of a draw they are, plus who they are fighting. It is likely Rumble's contract for the fight was based on him fighting Jon Jones and that being a huge draw. After the swap, it is clear, the fight isn't as big and DC who signed his contract after got less. And, circumstances can determine if you forfeit your bonus before the fight even beings (Diaz did against Silva a while back).

Yeah it just depends on the fighter's contract. Probably the majority do get X, plus X more if they win, but I've seen quite a few with a set purse regardless of the outcome.

I doubt Rumble is on $500/500k... that would make him one of the highest paid guys as far as disclosed purses.

You are thinking Faber not hall.

But yeah the amount they get paid is fucking insane. not to mention the recent bullshit with Reebok sponser is not fair to the fighters.

oh and norse is fucking batshit insane. sure i would bet some are on peds. but many of the wrestlers are NCAA or Olympic level. they have been tested for years. i doubt many are on it.

though i would like to see better testing.

Yah seems like a terrible way to make money. And that is the UFC... the smaller organizations pay the prelim fighters like $1000/1000. Not sure how the fighters make money when you consider their training costs, travel, etc. Even the UFC only pays for like the fighter + one corner travel (I think 2 for main events or champs), but almost every fighter has 3+ in their corner.

I seen some numbers from guys making the minimum $8/8k, after travel to another country, taxes in two countries, they make almost nothing.

This is a good site to keep up on MMA and they have an article on the new drug testing.

Never read up much on steroids but it looks like I am going to read some stuff on micro-dosing and find out what the fuck it is.

I don't see any problem with the new drug testing, except for testing for recreational drugs out of competition. I'm mainly thinking about weed, but if you're under contract but don't have any fights scheduled who cares if you are doing something like ecstasy or cocaine.
