UFC 162: Silva vs Weidman (July 6 @ 10pm EST)

ahh.. someone that actually might give the champion a run for his money.
(unlike some LHW (sonnen) and HW (bigfoot) championship fights)

weidman is a wrestler and likes takedowns. and he's undefeated!
fresh blood!

record breaking reign of the aging Silva might be over?

Loved Weidmans elbow to Mark Munoz's face. Wonder if he has the lateral quickness to get out of the way of Andersons Punches. Guy has great cardio and should pose a great 5 round threat.

Silva should have good enough takedown defense to force Weidman to box. Weidman will probably try the clinch game.

Should be good fight!

I'm most excited about Jung/Lamas...should be a wild fight. Swanson/Siver will be a good one, too.

If Weidman doesn't get KO'd early, I think he works the takedown/GnP game until he wins by a late submission. I could see this fight going like the first 4 rounds of Silva/Sonnen 1, with the difference being Weidman's strong jiu-jitsu game.

Haven't they been saying this for like 5 or 6 years and it ends up in a first round knockout?
well the UFC has no choice but to promote its PPV title fights and overhype MW challengers. I doubt many knowledgeable fans have considered Anderson Silva even slightly vulnerable in years, with maybe a few contrarians going into the Sonnen rematch.

On paper, his toughest challengers were Belfort two years ago and Hendo 5 years ago?

In theory he's hit the age where some of the speed/quickness is gonna disappear, but honestly we haven't seen any indication yet of a decline. Maybe he's an alien from another planet.

Amusing how people analyze these Silva fights like his opponent isn't just going to get matrixed as usual.

I don't get why people keep dismissing Sonnen. In the first fight he dominated 4 full rounds and 3/4th of the last. yeah got caught at the end but that was teh closest that anyone came to beating him. it was a fucking great fight on both sides.

in the 2nd it started off the same. then Cheal did that idiotic spinning elbow. ugh. idiot.

the AS/weidman fight should be good too. another great wrestler (though not as good as Sonnen) but a ton of power in his hands too.

it should be a good fight. though i think AS takes it

Leben is fighting again... SWEET!

wait he is? i thought he retired?

Leben is awesome. I was hoping more from him then we got. but he is one hell of a tough guy

Not sure I'm buying into the Weidman hypetrain yet. He steamrolled Munoz, but aside from that I havent seen anything from him that says "Oh shit! Anderson is in trouble!". When Matt Hamill headkick KO'd Munoz into another timezone nobody was claiming Hamill was going to be the next champ. Weidman had a good night, but I wouldve liked to see him fight another top guy before, but oh well.

I'm not saying Weidman is a scrub or anything, he could very well be legit, I just think he needed another win before fighting Silva. But, of all the title shots given lately, I can't really complain about his, at least he is coming off of a win for his title shot.

Hopefully Silva wins with no problem and we get Silva/Jones and JDS/Cain III in Cowboy Stadium...

Still waiting for GSP vs. Silva.

gotta wait a long time.

GSP doing a movie right now. then he has to defend his belt against (get this) the #1 contender in his weight division. i know.. shocking.
more shocking.. dana white not making the #1 contender fight a match to be interm champ while gsp is away to make more $$$

are you kidding me? While I have a good amount of respect for GSP, Silva would mop him up.

One of the reasons Spider Silva has been so successful is he's really a LHW that somehow makes the cut to MW. So roughly speaking, GSP is a couple weight classes smaller and I haven't even gotten into a debate about talents yet. GSP's greatest strength in grappling would likely be ineffective against a much bigger opponent.

Silva might actually be an underdog to Jon Jones, but it could be a little unfair for the greatest MMA fighter ever to challenge in another division, pushing closer to the age of 40.

Somewhat like Mayweather/Pacquiao the shelf-life on the Silva/GSP superfight expired a couple years ago IMO. Unlike boxing promotions, I don't think Zuffa would offer guys enough money to make superfights between cross-division champions.

Same here. Cub has been looking sharp against good comp lately. Gotta watch Siver's spin back kick. I think this a good matchup for KZ. I like his chances wherever the fight goes. I do not see him getting subbed, and he has good whiskers.

It has a bit. However, his timing has improved, which more than made up for it.

KZ's fight against Poirer was my FOTY for 2012. That takedown-reversal into mount...my god. It has been really disappointing to have him out with injury for 13 months.

He is ridiculously fun to watch on the feet and the ground.

yeah i am a GSP fan. i would give the fight to AS without a doubt i do think GSP would make it a fight but lose in the end.

JBJ vs As is the fight i want anyway.

but damn all 3 of them are great fighters.

4moredays!

I know...I can't friggin' wait.

We get to see:

A) Anderson Silva Matrix-style KO
or
B) A huge upset

Weidman is legit and is probably tied with Belfort as #2 Middleweight in the world, but I think Silva's experience will be the difference. Anderson Silva has more consecutive title defenses than Weidman even has total fights.

..but who knows, right? That is why we're watching this Saturday.

These guys are pansies. I miss the days of Wanderlei or Liddell where they'd fight anyone. These new guys dodge guys they might lose too and the worst part is that zuffa encourages it.

Jon Jones may have something to say about that.

Velazquez too, but I definitely think Bones is better than Silva just about everywhere. Siva's one of the best and has finished just about everyone. But the people he's finished compared to the people Bones has finished are nowhere near as good. Bones has finished dudes with ease who simply don't get finished.
