Junior didnt fight His fight. He let Cain decide where they were gonna be. He should have kept moving backwards. When he did Cain ate a couple
Of jabs and a uppercut.

Jds looked helpless in the clinch

Oh thank god...I thought when Cain gassed out and couldnt finish that fate would take over and I would be out some dough.

miss hearing goldie announcing.

Joe is much more restrained today.

wonder if hes pissed.
Goldberg is awful, one of the worst on-air commentators in all of American sports. He has zero insight, just agrees with Joe sometimes and yells exclamations other times as if he understands MMA.

For the first round or two of the ME, I honestly wondered if JDS was taking a dive. (not to take anything away from Cain)

I should have listened to Joe. John Anick asked him in the pre fight interview whether Cain would stand and bang. Joe replied that he may want to show people he can do it, and if he does, and is successful, then his take downs will open up. Exactly what happened. Can't say I saw it coming before hand.

JDS didn't look himself at all during that fight. I wonder if it was the great right cross from Cain in the first round. JDS looked spent from the beginning, with not one hard punch thrown, no footwork, etc.

Not to take anything away from Cain, who fought a really really good fight. JDS just looked bizarre though, compared to his last 10 fights or so. Anyone else think so?

I think that totally took him out of the fight. By round 3, or maybe it was 4, JDS showed a little bit of a resurgence, but at that time, he had been in survival mode for so long, it was too late for him to present the sort of danger he could have had he not taken that huge shot (or shots).

In a post fight interview, Dana White said that he heard that JDS had a broken jaw in one of the first two rounds.

In the post-fight news conference, one of the reporters (I'm assuming a Brazilian because of a heavy accent) said that she had just heard from someone in the JDS camp (she mentioned them by name, I believe, but I don't recall the name) that said JDS did NOT break his jaw.

Yep, you're right... It's been confirmed that the tests came back negative for a broken jaw.

hah you're echoing my post just 2 above yours. 😀

That Cain big right did seem to turn JDS into a zombie, which explains the first half of the fight. But I agree with you that with Cain Velasquez starting off the fight as a 250-lb Frankie Edgar, it seemed JDS wasn't even trying to counter or throw his massive bombs.

Good news is that Cain won, bad news is he'll most likely have to face Overeem. 😛

lol overeem is so over rated its insane. Cain fights the way he did against JDS reem will give up the first round. cain's wrestling is really good i see him takeing reem down and beating the shit out of him. Far worse then he did JDS>

I still wan't to see JDS vs reem. perhaps that should be reems first fight back after useing roids.

Hes fighting bigfoot in Feb, he'll probably get the next crack at Cain if he wins then.

In other heavyweight action, it was nice to see Todd Duffee pick up a nice 1st round stoppage win in his first fight back.

I don't think Overeem is overrated, but I do think his skill set is far better for kickboxing than MMA. The outcome, however, I see the same as you. Cain will smother him with his wrestling.

IMHO, the only advantage Overeem has over JDS in a battle against Cain is his knees and low kicks. JDS tends to pretty much only box & sprawl. Overeem is famous for his knees, though admitedly more for their power than their timing. That should, at least in theory, make shooting in more risky, at least without setup. Low kicks will also take speed out of the shoot as well as power out of the jab. On the flip side, there's the risk of the kick being caught as the lead in for a take down.

Either way, I think it's an intriging matchup. I'd personally rather watch Overeem vs JDS though. I think it would be a more intertaining battle.

I see Cain shooting in once and eating an Overeem knee. 🙂

As for JDS, Overeem should make quick work of him. What does JDS have that Overeem hasn't seen in K1? I see that as a much easier win for Overeem than Cain. At least with Cain he has to watch out for the shoot.
