Sonnen has at least proven he is the second best in his class.

I personally believe all title fights should go trough him. If the person cant beat chael they shouldnt be in the ring with anderson.

Its time to do some superfights. Hell bring in Randy and have them fight Greco Roman style !!!!

How about Anderson VS Rickson Gracie superfight with old VALE TUDO rules!!!

knee hit chest, yes, is it still an illegal strike? yes. why? because the rest of the leg blasts the face. it's the same thing as shooting for an inside leg kick and hitting the nuts, you didn't mean to hit the nuts but you did and it's against the rules. just like you're not allowed to kick or knee a downed opponent in the head and if you miss your target even some what and hit their head, it's an illegal strike. Just like back of the head shots that aren't intentional. Everyone clamoring "legal knee" is seriously retarded. I'm a fan of LESS RULES, but rules are rules and if you aren't going to abide by them why even fucking have them in the first place?

thigh to face =/= knee to face

Havent been able to watch replay. How long was he sitting? Guys have been using this rule to bait a foul.

no.

he tried a spinning back fist (fucking stupid. he should a went for teh take-down. stick with what works) and fell down. he scooted back and Anderson stepped in and kneed him.

Sonnen was a idiot in the fight. He is not JBJ.

I felt cheated when I watched this fight at my buddies place. Sonnen really looked dangerous in the first round, but to come out and try a spinning back fist was one of the biggest bone head moves I've ever seen. You are fighting a man who is the champ, why even attempt a risky move? Especially after your game plan worked for the first round.

I couldn't decide if the most embarrassing lose of the night was Sonnen's or the pirate getting KOed from a single body punch(McKenzie)

What I don't get is after he lost his balance and fell, he sat up but didn't move. It was like he had been hit and was out of it. His fighter IQ's very high outside of his submission defense lol. I watched the replays and still don't understand why he seaminly made no attempts to stand up. Or at least move out the damn way. I know Anderson's stupid fast, but it's like after his back fist attempt he just decided to give up. I don't think it was a stupid move to try imho, spinning back fists are used a lot and can catch a fighter off guard. It didn't work for shit for Chale though.

thigh to face =/= knee to face

I thought I said that in my post? It doesn't matter though, it's just like an inside leg kick that hits the nuts or a punch that hits the back of the head unintentionally. They're against the rules and there are things the ref is supposed to do when the rules are broken. They aren't the same for each infraction, but there is something that the ref is to do. Also, I like I said I'm for kicks or knees to downed opponents and I think the rules need to change. That doesn't change the fact that the rules are what they are and they both agreed to fight under them.

btw QueBert, I'm with you I have no idea wtf Chael was thinking. He should have stood up must of brain farted or feared getting kneed on the stand up enough that he just sat put. Stupid move though.

yeah and the rule is no knees to the face, and that wasn't a knee to the face.

a thigh to the face aint shit, you're not getting those lovely knee bones to your nose/mouth/whatever.

bring back pride rules, don't leave your head unprotected.

you cannot throw a legal shot that glances and strikes an illegal point of contact. that makes it illegal. i know it's a stupid rule, but that's the rule. if his leg didn't hit chaels face i'd be like "yay silva won in the second round exactly like i thought he would" except it does hit chaels face and that is clearly against the rules. just like leg kick nut shots or glancing back of the head shots when the opponent is downed.

got a link or c/p of the rule?

Is this the UFC or UPC (Ultimate Pussy Championship)? This "no kicking a downed opponent" is bullshit. So are all the other BS rules they added since the REAL UFC back in the day. Back then you were a true Ultimate Fighter, now it's just a watered down sport like boxing. And no, I'm not counting a thigh to the face as a kick or a knee. It's bad enough that knees and kicks are illegal. I'm not going to extended the pussy rule to the thigh and hip.

Soccer kicks to the head generate extreme force and acceleration. Not only is it possible that a well-positioned, wound-up kick could do permanent damage to the spine, but the brain will certainly be rattling around inside the skull.

In essence, if you're looking for death matches, why don't you just keep watching Van Damme movies?

You do know the "they" in "they added" wasn't the UFC right? The athletic commissions got together and said "these are the rules" UFC had to either follow them or close up shop, but they had zero say in the matter.

and yet this is obviously no problem:

UFC was ORIGINALLY designed to prove who was the best fighter PERIOD. Not some BS watered down sport. If you are looking for a sport where no one gets hurt, check out tennis. I heard that's pretty safe.

But it was always watered down, you could never kick to the nutts, poke in the eye or pull hair. In real fighting anything goes, so by your logic UFC was always pussified right?

I understand that. It happened to fall under the athletic commission's authority when it started gaining public attention. There was an outcry about how barbaric it was, and "they" stepped in and proceeded to apply boxing type rules since they didn't know what the hell to do with it. It's really not Dana's fault. It was either go with these moron's rules or close shop. Doesn't change the fact that a UFC champion now is not a TRUE ultimate fighter. He's just a good fighter under certain rules, like a boxer.
