Just announced today, that Diaz is out and Condit is in.

A wild week for the Ultimate Fighting Championship just got wilder on Wednesday afternoon, as UFC President Dana White revealed in a Las Vegas press conference that the man challenging for UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre’s title on October 29th in Las Vegas won’t be Strikeforce 170-pound king Nick Diaz, but “The Natural Born Killer,” Carlos Condit.

The shocking news came after Diaz no-showed a press conference in Toronto Tuesday and did the same thing in Vegas. After not returning subsequent phone calls, White decided to pull the Stockton, California native from the main event of UFC 137.

“I’ve had my reservations about Nick Diaz for some time,” said White. “All I asked the kid to do was play the game this much (holding fingers slightly apart). I need you to do certain things. You have to show up to the press conference, you have to promote this fight. He looked at me and said he would, and he lied to me. I’ve promoted over 1600 fights and this has never happened once. I'd rather pull the fight now than risk him not showing up on the night of the fight. This blows my mind.”

“Nick Diaz has lost his chance at the welterweight championship, and Carlos Condit gets it. This kid absolutely deserves it.”

Not hesitating to step into Diaz’ place is another worthy challenger in Condit, a former WEC welterweight champion who has hit his stride in the UFC, winning four in a row. Included are three consecutive knockouts of Rory MacDonald, Dan Hardy, and Dong Hyun Kim. The 27-year old from Albuquerque was already in camp preparing for a UFC 137 bout with BJ Penn when the call came to replace Diaz.

Montreal’s St-Pierre, unbeaten in nine fights since 2007, has barely lost a round in that time frame, defeating Penn, Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, Josh Koscheck, Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy, and Jake Shields. Now he will prepare to turn back the challenge of Condit on October 29th.

“When I went to Toronto and he didn’t make it, I didn’t judge it right away,” said St-Pierre. “I thought something bad happened. Then I talked to some people and it’s a lack of professionalism. There are three partners to promote a fight – the UFC, me, and Nick Diaz. I showed up to do my job and Nick Diaz didn’t, and there are consequences. I would have never done something like that.”

Wednesday's news came on the heels of a week in which the UFC announced plans for the organization's return to Japan in 2012, the signing of Alistair Overeem, an Overeem-Brock Lesnar bout in December, a Ben Henderson-Clay Guida November bout, and replaced the injured Diego Sanchez with Josh Koscheck in the UFC 135 main event on September 24th.

There was no news yet on Diaz' future in the organization or on a new opponent for Penn.

St-Pierre has become a very boring fighter to watch lately. Seems like the majority of his fights drag on and on, many times to the Judges decision. I can't recall the last time St-Pierre had a fight that made me go "Wow, what an awesome fight".

Nick does nothing but complain about money. He will either go to boxing, or end up one of the highest paid fighters in a smaller promotion. He is probably as certain as I am, that GSP will hold him down round after round. He will likely never be a top draw or wage earner in the UFC.

He can do an Eddie Alvarez, and be the top guy, earning a good living. Or box a bunch of chumps, then make a few big pay days.

Can't say I'm surprised. Diaz rarely shows any class or respect (outside of the ring). The guy messed up....big.

It is funny though... he complains and complains about money. Then he gets this fight which will probably be more than hes made in his entire career, and bitches out.

I think he was testing them, he prolly thought that sense he has done shit like this before:

failed drug test
missed press conferences
fights in hospitals
missing pre-fight drug test for a title fight

that he could do it again. He tried to call the UFCs bluff, and found out very quickly they werent bluffing.

Then he posts that stupid video on youtube. I was a diaz fan right up until yesterday, he screwed the fans more than anything.

His Manager/Mentor Ceasar Gracie isn't too happy with Diaz and side with Dana.

"At this point, I don't know what I'm going to do with Nick because he's not only disrespected the sport, he's disrespected me and himself"

"He got what he deserved"

Gracie goes off on Diaz pretty good considering his trained him since we was 16...over 12 years now. - http://mmajunkie.com/news/25128/nic...n-ufc-137-removal-he-got-what-he-deserved.mma

WOW......to go from a title shot and probably a million or more dollars, to having your coach, mentor, and team seriously pissed at you telling you that you acted like a child and have to earn their trust of 10 years back is quite a turnaround.

I almost feel bad for the guy, but seriously....get on a plane and go to a stupid presser. Nick always talked about getting paid, just think of going to a presser as making $20k and you'll be fine.

As much as DICK Diaz likes to talk shit, its mind boggling why he would miss a press conference where he has a platform to do so. Just goes to show, both he and his brother are fucking idiots.

I've long supported both Diaz brothers when many others write them off, but I can no longer call myself a Nick fan. Social anxiety disorder or not, he's blown it here and I wouldn't be shocked or sad to see him cut outright from the UFC.

I don't really care what he does now.

IMO Condit is just as much if not more of a threat to GSP than Diaz.

Dana put it the best when he told him, take all the purse money you've won over your entire career, add it up. Then compare it to this single pay day, win or lose, would be FAR greater.

Moron on the highest level.

I think Conduit is far far more of a threat to GSP then diaz could ever be. I am more excited about this fight now then i was about Diaz.

What? Conduit has heavy hands but ZERO takedown defense. GSP will do the same stand up for a minute and pound him into the ground. At least Diaz had far better takedown defense and a great full guard. His striking was pretty good to boot.

Ground control and GNP used to be the staple of the UFC. Don't get me wrong, I'd kill to see GSP truly stand up and KO some folks or submit people (hard to believe he didn't to Hardy) but he's just playing to the strength that no one can stop.

I think Condit and Diaz are very close together skill wise. Both are good standing and on the ground.

Condit has alot more technique on the feet though. Diaz is primarily a boxer. Condit throws alot more variety of strike... He's the best replacement they could have put in short of Anderson Silva.

WTF!

now Nick is fighting BJ penn?

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Penn-Diaz-On-for-UFC-137-in-Las-Vegas-35424

UFC President Dana White on Thursday confirmed a rumored bout between Nick Diaz and B.J. Penn at UFC 137.

“This is crazy, but here we go again,” White posted Thursday on Twitter. “You wanted it, so you got it. Penn versus Diaz, Oct. 29 in Vegas.”

The reigning Strikeforce welterweight champion, Diaz had originally been slated to face Georges St. Pierre for the UFC title in the event's headliner. However, after allegedly missing two press conferences in as many days, Diaz was pulled from the bout by the UFC boss.

Instead of Diaz, Penn's original opponent, former WEC champion Carlos Condit, will now face the champion. With both Penn and Diaz left without an opponent, a potential bout between the two immediately drew attention from both media and fans alike.

I give the fight to Penn. well if he decides he wants to fight. if he came in with the determination he had against hughes its going to be a rough fight for diaz.

Wow...seriously? White is still rewarding Diaz...or plans on rewarding BJ for punishing the fuck out of him. This is one time where I hope BJ talks shit and absolutely demolishes somebody. Maybe once Diaz loses White will cut him. I guess he finally thought about it from a $$ standpoint - having him on the card will bring in more $$ than firing his ass, at least at the moment.

I think Penn embarrasses him. well that is if he 100% there to fight heh. sometimes it seems like Penn is off in la la land during fights.

Maybe Diaz had a contract for 1 more fight that couldn't be broken just because of a failure to show up to a press conference?

No, UFC is a business, they never said they were going to cut him, he prolly lost some pay but people still want to see him fight and he is a good fighter.

This way, they punish him by taking him off the main event, and prolly some pay, but he still fights.

NOBODY said he would get fired (well from the ufc). Dana said he didn't trust him in the main event. Wich i fully agree.

but then why put him in the 2nd biggest fight of the night? ugh
