Your post reads very hostile, why? Have a look at my avatar, recognize that cat? Lyoto holds the same rank in Shotokan as I do, it would be impossible for me not to support him.You honestly think Rampage won the first two rounds? WTF? You're high guy. Sorry you don't win a round being out struck DOUBLY on top of being out muscled in the clinch. Rampage didn't win a single round and he looked like crap. Stop making excuses for the guy, he's a fucking professional and gets paid big money to entertain us. If he's not going to fight up to his level of pay and hype, then fuck him I have no interest in watching him fight any more.
Also, he wants Griffin now. Of course he does because he wins this time. Griffin doesn't give a fuck any more, he looked like utter garbage in his last fight. He simply showed up to collect a pay check.
That said, the judges do not watch the same fights you and I do. They may as well be checking some boxes on a sheet, if that is not what they actually do. To reiterate: control and aggression are likely to go to his opponents, because he spends so much time using ashi and tai sabaki to avoid damage. That means his striking and grappling have to impress upon the judges enough to overcome that.
I am also doubtful that all of the whiffing and blocked shots by Rampage were observed that way. I think from what the judges saw, they counted some of it as landing.
As to defending him, not a chance. However, as faulty as it is, I acknowledge how judging criteria is being done lately. Lyoto will have to overcome the perception, even with judges, that he is not displaying aggression or octagon control. 2 of the 4 main points on which rounds are scored.
Again, take those 2 points, decide Rampage gets both because he moves forward, and throws punches, and Lyoto has to very decisively win the other 2 to get that round. Of course, that is my thinking, and in no way can be construed as straight up facts. It does fit the circumstances though.
And Rampage's face said it all after that fight. Was there some backlash due to the first Shogun fight? Was there an emphasis placed on strictly observing the 4 points of scoring a round? I have no idea. But, do not be surprised if Lyoto cannot buy a decision in which he fails to be uncharacteristically aggressive, and does not clearly dominate the round. Regardless of if it is due to inactivity in the round or what have you.
And most here seemed to think QJ won that fight, judging by the responses I read here. What does that say about our own perception of the fight? Are we the ones being biased? Or is it the loyalty of PRIDE fans for their old favs?
