no he's not he's fighting for the points.

compared to how he usually fights? yeah he is.

now is he? no he just don't have that kind of power. though i suspect him getting his eye messed up hurt him. after that he didn't seem as aggressive.

one of the few fights GSP has looked worse then the other guy. but i still give him 4 of the 5 rounds

LOL of course the MMA sites are full of people saying how GSP sucks, how is he even top 5 p4p, Nick Diaz would own him, etc etc. Such finnicky whiny fans. Not that MMA fans are really like that, it's just much of these people who hang on the forums are.

As soon as Machida loses two in a row, he sucks. As soon as someone wins decisively, he's awesome and has a ton of new fans.

As for GSP, it wasn't a good performance. What I think was the key was not just his eye, but his reaction to it. Like he sounded very worried about the eye. Like some have said, is GSP able to really dig deep when in trouble? I'm not sure. Which is weird because he seems like such a mentally strong and intelligent guy. But I think that comes out more as being a patient and cautious winner, rather than like a really gutsty winner.

That eye could have seriously been fucked. I hope it's okay. But people seem to expect that GSP should charge forward with one eye, knock Shields down, then jump onto him with one eye. Sounds like a great way to get caught in an armbar or something that you couldn't see.

As for Jake Shields, he showed better striking than anyone expected. But a lot of it I think was in the later rounds was the eye problem with GSP. I don't exactly understand his gameplan though... WTF?

I'm not sure I had Shields winning two rounds. Wonder which ones they were. There was maybe one round I would have given him (I think it was the 4th?).

I guess GSP's big winning round streak was broken. The fact that 2/3 judges gave it a 48-47 makes it sound like it was a very close fight, but I don't think so. I think maybe 1 or 2 judges giving Shields one round could have been the case.

seriously, wtf is with seagal and his crane kick taking down top level talent?

IMO, GSP was totally embarrassing Shields before the eye thing happened, and then some even afterwards.

He did seem to get psyched out by the fact that he couldn't see out of his eye, but that's understandable. I imagine getting poked in the eye and not being able to see how of it is an unnerving experience... definitely one of the worst kinds of injuries.

Yep, he was definitely outclassing Shields before the eye problem. After it, it was closer, but I still gave GSP the edge.

But the thing is, Shields knew no matter how much he may have improved his striking that he would get wrecked by GSP, and he surely couldn't have counted on an eye injury. What the hell was his plan?

Can't disagree with you there... he was running around looking mighty amateur during that fight.

Of course he could still kick my ass but that's not the point. Just gotta put these fighter opinion conversations into perspective sometimes, heh.

He freaked out when he couldn't see out of his eye, splashing it with water between rounds, but really seemed to sh!t when his ring man told him it wasn't even bleeding. 😱 I think he was terrified of losing an eye at that point.

Without any blood or obvious scratch, he could have a detached retina, ala Sugar Ray Leonard. That would be pretty devastating and could even lead to permanent damage depending on the severity of it, as well as how the surgery goes.

Yep that must have been a real issue for him. Think if you're in a HUGE fight, and it's not like your hand or jaw is broke, or your nose is all busted up, or whatever. But when your eye has a serious issue it must mess with you terribly. I dunno, maybe some don't mind but to me I think that's about the worse. Problems with your eye can be such a big deal, cause well you might not be able to see from it. I hope it's nothing big and GSP is fine.

Exactly why I don't watch it anymore. It's more a circus show than anything anymore. There are a only a few good fights a year and they want $50 for each ppv. I'll pass. I wonder if they'll invite Coleman back to fight Couture for the over 45 belt? Putting Randy vs Machida was strictly a money grab. Couture is almost 50 freaking years old. GSP is boring as hell to watch. Truth is the guy outclasses everyone by a mile but he can't finish a fight to save his ass so you end up watching him throw his opponent around for five rounds. I'm done. Whenever they decide to charge $19.99 a ppv I'll start watching again. I'm not paying $50 for this garbage.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I've been into Strikeforce because the guys there finish. I hope the UFC doesn't f' them up too.

1 judge gave 50-45.
but 2 judges gave 48-47?! WTF?!

i can see shields maybe getting 1 round. but 2?!?!?!

the 4th and 5th could have gone either way. i had all but the 5th for gsp though.

the first 2 rounds GSP was aggressive. after the eye you could tell he changed. he was worried about the eye and getting caught. Also he didn't go to the ground much. then again against shields i wouldn't either.

it worked for the Karate Kid (both the white and black one).
so it's natural that'll it work in real life against champion contenders and even former champions. 😕

the karate kid (all 4 films) will now be standard videos for all MMa wannabees to watch so you can learn all it's powerful moves.
crane kick, wax on/wax off, put jacket on/take jacket off.

and of course the trainer healing you by using his chi.

The other 8/9 fights shown (inc spike prelims) didn't entertain you?
