i have read many threads about dma in the forums, but i still have a question: i know i need to download a driver to enable udma5 in win 2k, but what about win me? i had some problems enabling it (like my hd disppearing from the device manager...), but udma4 seems to work fine. can i use the same driver?

well it's an a7v. when the bios was set to auto, my hd was recognized as udma5 during boot, so the mobo might support it. however, it was only changing the bios setting to udma4 that i could set the hd to dma in windows (and keep it working...)

there's something else...

should i use the via 4in1 drivers to enable dma?

but how?

from via.com.tw:

Step 1: To setup the driver, double click the "SETUP.EXE" icon or run

"SETUP.EXE" under VIA 4 In 1 Driver directory.
Step 2: Bypass the "Welcome" dialog by clicking "Next"
Step 3: In "Select Component" dialog, choose driver(s) you wish to
install by clicking the check box of each driver. Selected
driver(s) will display tick(s).
After selecting proper driver(s), click next
Step 4: Driver options select
"VIA ATAPI Vendor Support Driver dialog": <--------------*
Install, Uninstall
Enable/Disable DMA Mode
"VIA_GART AGP Driver":
Install VIA AGP VxD in turbo mode, Install VIA AGP VxD in
Normal Mode, Uninstall
"Viamach.INF ":
Install
"VIA PCI IRQ Miniport Driver"
Install, Uninstall

* i can't find the via atapi vendor support driver...
