Activating the DMA-Mode in Win98 decreases system performance!

Ive already installed the VIA 4in1 drivers.

What can i do?

yes i had the same problem with that driver. For some unknown reason it sometime diminish system performance i.e data tranfer rate from hard drive. I would suggest you install the a different IDE busmaster driver from soltek website. I has done a good job for my comp after 4.26 screwed up my hard drive performance.here is the link

This is the Busmaster IDE driver from VIA?!?!

However, in Win98 youn shouldnt install the busmaster driver

where did you get the information that you don't need busmaster driver in win 98? yeah its busmaster driver from via.. for 696b south bridge for ATA 100 capability. BUT all VIA drivers are universal and you can use it for 696A also. by the way win 98 specially needs the busmaster driver win 2k comes with VIA busmaster driver. So you don't need that for win2k.

u don't need the busmaster drivers for win98SE, since they come bundled w/ windows' driver base...
read the VIA driver faq...
