udma mode not working

Ok guys I need help. For the last 3 months I have not been able to get my Tyan Trinity 400 motherboard based on the Via chipset to allow me to check the box on the MAxtor 40 gig harddrive I have to get UDMA-DMA working. I have done everything. Switched cables, every setting I can think of...nothing. So the hardrive is basically handicapped right now. Does anyone know any setting no matter how obscure that might fix this?

What OS are you using?

I had a similar problem with my comp too ( with a VIA chipset ), all I can say is play around with the drivers. Uninstall everything related to the IDE bus, and install the newest ones from VIA.

well tried all that...nada...now system is a bit unstable too
