I will try to keep this on the upside as much as possible.
I installed UD today. I joined Team Anandtech within the ud organization..
The problem is I cant shut it down! I guess the first clue I had that is was INVASIVE
was the Microsoft.net advertising at the bottom.. Besides not being able to shut it off (short of using the windows task manager) It has rendered my machine unstable. I have seem the first 2 BSOD's
in a month since installing this afternoon.
Well I guess what I am saying is, the cause is noble. And worthwhile. However I am at an end of my
patients and good will.
Can anyone tell me how to shut this pig down?
Can anyone tell how to throttle the resources used. from 100% to like 50% I am still waiting on SK6
heat sink and fan and dont wanna over do the load on my processor
I dont like the fact that if you select dsl or cable it connects when ever it wants to.
This thing smells to much like microsoft to me.
It is buggy
It looks nice
Is invasive no apparent way to shut it off
Enough complaining. If someone could answer my 2 questions I would be appreciative

Is this the first time your have had any kind of distributed computing program on your system. To me it sounds like heat is the problem. Your CPU may be on the edge of being too hot and having the CPU run at 100% just sent it over the top.

right click on the blue icon and hit exit and yes heat does sound like your problem
and no you cant set how much of the cpu it uses if its the only thing running it uses 99% if you start something else it will lower the cpu usage

Seti runs great on this new system. No BSOD's wu's in 3hr 30 min on average. The only problem I have is the temp reaches a max of 55c
Which to me is a little high. So to answer your question. Not the first time to run DC. Seti works well. I like to shut seti and other things off when burning cds or Converting Video.
I simply want a way to shut the stuff off when I want to. Control alt Delete doesnt seem to be the best method to me.
I am addressing the heat issue should see the SK6 monday or Tuesday.
And you may be right. I was running seti and UD at the same time and was running at 54c
I believe the amd says you shouldnt have to worry till 60 or 70c
Can someone tell the proper method for shutting the proggy of... UD cancer

Thanks Pmondo I swear I tried that. Prolly wasnt responding when I did and I assumed that was normal .. No right click.
Thats the way I shut down seti driver

UD isn't near as bad as other DC clients at consuming the available resources from what I have seen. Yes, if run alone, it will run as fast as it can...99% wise to be sure... but it sure gives a big space to other DC clients when run concurrently. You should be able to just right click on the blue poison pill and exit any time you want. Note though that you want to make sure it has reached a lower level of a percentage point before you do that (UD only saves progress after each percentage point)

I'm not sure I'm addressing your probem if you actually can't shut UD down by exiting upon right clicking though. Perhaps this bump will help 😉
