Okay....

Setting up a system for my sis. Cd rom isn't reading cd's right and hard drive won't format right. Windows XP quick partition will work, I also changed hard drives. When I downloaded Ubuntu awhile ago and burned it on a cd and installed it worked but some package wasn't working and since then I have the gotten the Ubuntu cd in the mail and it works on my pc. But not on hers.

So what could be going on? The mobo just went bad or what?

For some reason the hard drive and cd rom are acting funny. I also changed the ide cable and no dice. The hard drive can be quick paritioned but not full paritioned and I changed hard drives.

How are hard drive and CD-Rom wired ?

Are they both on the same cable ?

Is the hard drive an IDE or SATA ?

Do you have the desktop version of Ubuntu or the alternate version and is it Dapper Drake ?

Try putting the CD-Rom back on the secondary port, the hard drive on primary port and make sure each of them are jumpered as MASTER unless you have a newer hard drive that will not permit you to jumper it as master.

Then try to do a desktop install of Ubuntu Dapper Drake, if that is what you have.

How old is CD-Rom drive and what brand is it ? The CD-rom drive is the first thing I would suspect.

Good luck.

Let us know what you find.

I also tried switching cd roms. But I will try what you said again. Could a bad power supply cause this?
