who will actually read two pages of your bs?
Those damned personal statements are about the only thing that you have to set yourself apart from everyone else that has the same GPA and extracirriculars as you do. Frankly its a load of bull. But I guess they have to do something to figure out who gets in. I know for a fact the only reason my ex-gf got into Berkeley is because of her sob story personal statement (it was true, but nevertheless). I hardly think its a valid criteria for being admitted into a top-tier university.
i concur.
knew someone in HS with very similar numbers and activities as me.
i've lived here my entire life, she wrote how she immigrated here from vietnam. guess who got into berkeley and who didn't?
i still got into UCLA though, so it wasn't the end of the world.
that's all PC.
in my school, we had a black girl got into Yale with 90ish average out of 96 and a little bit over 1000 SAT score. why? because her father is a criminal in jail and her mother is a whore. this is for a person who went through so much struggles and what she has overcame.
to freesia, I believe the dean of admission will automatically pick the vietnamese girl over you by stating her country of origin. the chinese population is way overrepresented in berk.
if you are going to write a personal statement, please focus on your first two paragraphs. keep in mind how many personal statements that person will have to read a day.
