ubuntu smp support

i installed ubuntu on a dual xeon machine. cat /proc/cpuinfo only shows
1 cpu. is support built into the kernel or not?

do i have to build my own? i want to keep the settings intact. is there a
.config available?

[Edit] I installed a new kernel image with smp support and it works great!
