I've been waiting for this. I just wish it was being released in the United States as well. Might have to pay a premium to get it off ebay later on.

I'd love to see this do well, but holy batman did they skimp on the specs. For what they're offering I wouldn't realistically pay more than half of what they're asking.

I'm tempted just out of curiosity but I'll stick with my general buying philosophy and wait a few versions before jumping in.

You have? This is not the phone they had on Kickstarted last year that a lot of people were talking about.
This one is lacking to say the least...

LOL at everyone getting excited about this!

It is not a flagship phone, but I would love to have one to play with. Ubuntu is my favorite OS all time.

I never said it was the hardware and I don't know where I implied that.
People were excited because they thought it was basically GNU linux in a phone(or close to it) that could double as a desktop. At least that what is was suppose to be. This is no longer the case. Of course a website like theverge doesn't mention that!

To say the least....

The modest price is matched by this first Ubuntu phone's barebone spec sheet. The 4.5-inch display has only qHD resolution (540 x 960), the processor is a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek chip, there's no LTE option, and the onboard storage is limited to 8GB. To offset these restrictions, the Aquaris allows memory expansion via a microSD card and also has two micro-SIM slots for added flexibility. If there's one spec indulgence here, it's the 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which BQ highlights as a major feature on the Android variant of this phone.

And with those enormous top and bottom bezels they won't even be able to point to its small size as a plus. Still, I hope it does well enough that we see it continued to be developed. Always nice to have more competition.

I wasn't going to pay $800 for an Edge.

This is exciting or at least interesting because Ubuntu is a newcomer in the mobile OS space. I like to play around with different devices, and Ubuntu also may bring features to the table that other OS' may integrate in the future, even if it doesn't survive as a mobile OS.
