ubuntu on Mac

I would like to try ubuntu on my old macbook, its is a 2.16 intel core 2 duo with 2gb of ram, i was just wondering if anyone has any experience with ubuntu on a mac and which version would be best, 32-bit, 64-bit, or the netbook version?
 
The netbook version is optimized for small displys more than slow hardware, so that depends on the size of your display.
 
thanks, i decided to install the desktop version since there aren't any optimizations for speed.
