ubuntu is not installing on my rig

trying to get ubuntu to work i went into thre irc channel they told me to use md5sums i did its the correct iso but when i burn it to disc and hit enter to install it sits there for a long period of time doing nothing. he said maybe a bad burn so i burned another disc same thing maybe my rig isnt compatible with linux? should i try another distro? which one?

I had the same prob with Ubuntu - finally just loaded SuSE ..much easier.

You would probably get better response in 'Operating Systems'.
