Ubuntu flash problem

Kirby

Lifer
I'm just starting out in Ubuntu and I'm having problems installing the flash plugin for firefox. I downloaded the installer and ran it, but I get the following error message.

ERROR: Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
Adobe Flash Player installer.

Please tell me that there flash support for 64bit linux. If not, what should I do?

Also, do you have to add the programs to sources.list to use apt-get? I'm trying to play mp3s but I can't quite figure it out. So far I got:

sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-farsight

but its says that couldn't find the package.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, go yell at Adobe. Hopefully one of these days one of the oss flash implementations will be usable but until then you're at their mercy.

This [1] might get you going with a 32-bit version of FF in order to use flash but I haven't tested it since I don't use Ubuntu and I have a full chroot setup for my 32-bit needs.

Go to the ubuntu forums and do some searching there.

"64 bit flash"
"amarok mp3"

That should do you. If you want to play mp3s, just

sudo apt-get install amarok

and that should be all you need.

sources.list is for repositories (servers with programs), not for the programs themselves.

Thanks alot guys. I got it all up and running. I had to install a 32bit firefox and go from there. Go figure. I also got Amarok playing mp3s and streaming from last.fm 🙂
