I searched for Ubuntu and scanned the titles, didn't see anything for this upcoming version of Ubuntu.

I've been running Ubuntu 7.04 on one of my test machines, being used primarily to help me in my linux classes.

Once 7.10 is released, I'll be dual booting my notebook again between XP and 7.10. I briefly ran 7.04, but ran into problems with playing some media, so put XP back on. With the dual boot, this shouldn't be a problem.

Granted, this is an incremental release, but there's quite a few new features coming.

Fedora 8 comes out in November as well, but thats another discussion.

Actually, Canonical builds each version from scratch off of Debian Testing. Each release is a major release and not a rolling update like PCLOS or Arch like to do. Texstar broke from the rolling updates with PCLOS 2007 because some new software used was not backwards compatible.

Edit:

I am typing this from the 7.10 RC. It looks like they already have the final packages out because I did not receive any updates today. Just download the RC and update to the final release if you want to avoid the rush.

Didn't know that. Still, I'll wait until this weekend to grab it. Won't have time to do anything with it until then.
 
Maybe sound will work on my Toshiba P105 with this release. It was having problems with Alsa (known issue with the Conexant Waikiki)

Yeah, IIRC, with at least a few of the Ubuntu releases, the RC has gone on to gold with no changes. I've always waited for the gold release, but I was curious to see what was on the DVD version so I downloaded it this week. I might have to md5sum it with the gold release just to satisfy my curiosity.

edit: ah, come to think of it though, there might at least be some text differences to reflect the fact that one is RC and one is gold, which would completely throw off the md5sum.
 
I ran 7.04 for a period of time on my notebook and wasn't entirely impressed. I have high hopes for this new version though.
 
We can say it different comments from different users. I have installed UBUNTU 7.01 Feisty Fawn and I think this is the best Linux Software I have ever seen.
 
Been running UBUNTU on my HP Notebook for around a year now. Was a trick getting everything working but now it runs sweet. WOW's every windows user I show it to. Fusion blows everyone away. Just wish Adobe CS3 would be supported. 🙁
 
Updated from 7.04 to 7.10 yesterday afternoon. The only issue I had was VMWare Server didn't work anymore and the usual auto-fix (launch from command line and step through prompts and accept defaults) didn't work. I had to install new build-essentials-(kernel version) and point the VMWare script to the correct path. Other than that and 'System-Administration-Printing' being listed twice everything seems okay.
 
I got the ISO, but I won't have time to install it until Saturday, perhaps Friday night. I suppose there are better things I could do with my Friday night, but . . . meh. 😉
