Any chance that I might be able to get a lucent agere PC24E-H-FC pcmcia wireless card (Orinoco) FCC ID: IMR WLPCE24H working on ubuntu 7.04/7.10 inside of vmware? I believe I've gotten all the libraries I need, however I think i'm going to be stumped by it running inside of VMWARE.

I also have openbsd 4.2 on another vm, any better chance of getting things running there?

AFAIK Besides USB stuff VMWare doesn't have the ability to present a specific piece of hardware directly to a guest.

Why do you want it to run in vmware? If it works on the host OS, vmware should do the necessary "magic" so that the guest OS sees it as a generic Ethernet connection.

I need to run it inside vmware because I have one laptop and its a work laptop on vista :(, so I cant exactly go erasing the disk or re-partitioning it. I have ubuntu on a desktop downstairs but it isn't portable.

There's no need to repartition or anything, just enable the network in VMWare and install the AMD PCNet32 NIC in the guest that VMWare presents.
