Ubisoft own the copyright so it would actually be legal for them to upload the soundtrack.

Now that they've uploaded it for free to the public at large, they might find it very difficult to successfully sue someone else for distributing it. I guess these suits tend not to be successful when they go to court anyway, but it's likely this (admittedly unimportant) particular set of tracks is now beyond their giant legal team's reach.

Let's see. . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ubisoft_games

Hmm. . . I like Heroes of Might & Magic V.

Missing from the list is Shufflepuck Cafe.

That's about all.

so a midtier producer that makes un-innovative games. the first splinter cell was pretty good, but dont think there needed to be 4 sequels after that. why is everyone making a fuss about them?
i wont lose any sleep by ignoring their DRM infested games. seems like all the business model nowadays of companies like ubisoft, ea and IW is pushing out rehashed crap with better graphics and shittier gameplay, dumbed down for idiots who like to camp in a corner and call in airstrikes because zomg airstrikes are so cool!!!1.
wheres the true innovation and gameplay?

Wait, what if Arsa13 is the Ubisoft employ responsible for both the piracy and the digital deluxe edition? Sorta like a researcher that gives away corporate secrets to other nations for free.

I thought about that too but it mentions he contacted ubisoft about it so I doubt it.

its not complex to make a mp3. I think they did this to say fu to the pirates more then out of laziness.

Except it just makes them look even more stupid and might end up encouraging people to pirate them just for lulz.

Wow, if they're too stupid to clear an ID3 tag, are they too stupid to clean the torrent of virii that might have come with it?

I already understand that the mindset of the pirate is to pirate for any little reason. They justify to themselves what they do. It's so thick in here you could cut it with a knife. Like somehow a business must leap through some hurdle to be blessed with your money. If they do anything that offends your senses you will steal their work just to hurt them.

Well go ahead and pirate but don't complain that games are truncated consolized pieces of shit with hardly any content.

How are the two even remotely similar? Christ, some people are making a far bigger issue out of this than is really necessary.

But now they are justified in downloading the torrents themselves to stick it to the man. Fucking zeros.

It could be that the encoder ARSA13 is a Ubisoft employee and he/she released the songs on bit torrent on purpose, based on a company decision. The songs serve to publicize the game, the company wanted them available to the public.

When including them on the disc, they could / perhaps should have removed the tags so this wouldn’t be recognized.

Wait, what? I never said I pirate, I don't agree with piracy whatsoever. All I'm saying is that when companies like Ubisoft (who already have a bad reputation) do incredibly stupid stuff like this, it makes people laugh at, hate, and respect them even less. What could possibly be the reason for needing to pirate material that you already own? Maybe their own DRM was giving them headaches so they said "Screw it, it'll be easier to download." :hmm:

They might own the copyright, but I doubt that it's legal for them to sell an illegitimate copy.

How it could it be illegal for Ubisoft, which I assume owns all the rights to the copyrighted music, to distribute a copy of the music made illegally by someone else? Ubisoft has the right to copy the music as they please, and that includes making copies of copies. Mechanically re-encoding a bunch of files doesn't give Arsa13 or anyone else involved in illegally distributing the music any rights to the music or the files they produced. If Ubisoft has done something illegal here, who's the aggreived party? Who would have standing to sue Ubisoft over this?

well, if ubisoft own all the rights to this and decided to torrent it, does that mean that those who downloaded the parts ubi uploaded have it legally? i mean the right holder chose to share it
