I'll let you all in on a little secret for the next time.

I went into BB on Wednesday the 26th, found a box on the shelf (PNY Ti4200 64MB) and walked it up to the front of the store and asked to speak to the manager. By this time the price had jumped back to $169. I gave the following pitch to the manager.

"I came in on Friday the 21st in the afternoon and was told they'd be in that evening at 8:30pm. So that evening I was told they were on the truck but wouldn't be unloaded until the next morning and I should be their at 10am when they open. I was there Saturday morning at opening and was told they didn't come in but to check back on Wednesday. Here it is Wednesday, you have plenty on the shelf, but now they're a different price. Before the price was $79.99 as listed on the shelf label."

He game me a form with directions to sell me one for $79.99.

I told a friend about it and we went to another BB where I pitched the same story. I got another one for $79.99 and as soon as he handed the form for me to take to the cashier, my friend who was standing near just observing moved in for the pass-off and told the manager he wanted one too and that he was with me when I came in before. The manager immediately said ok and he got one too.

However, if you must do this, and you're young, bring in an older man (I'm 53) cause believe me, age does matter in PR.
Oh, BTW, I was there once on Friday, once on Saturday and of course on Wednesday, so my story wasn't baseless.

Moral? In PR don't be a lawyer... sound like a victim. :)

Good to hear about this. It's nice to know that there are some BB manager/s who are willing to listen to a customer. As they say "the customer is always right". Congrats on getting your "hot deal". :)

I guess you really do deserve the title of "Senior" member :D
Is there any chance of scanning the form given to you for this hot deal? How does it look like exactly? Is it one of those loose-leaf size yellow-colored receipts?

This is weird...I got a PNY Ti4200. On boot up it says it's a 128mb. Display properties says it's a 128mb. But in 3dMark, under display adapter it say 64mb total ddr ram. Anyone else try this?

My order just shipped as well that I ordered from the kiosk at BB. BTW.. If the card doesn't have any stickers indicating the RAM, but has heatsinks (and RAM) on both sides of the card, does this mean that I have a 128 mb card? I was expecting some kind of marking indicating this like the 64 mb cards, but this one doesn't have it. All it has is the serial number (no indicators on the serial either). It is a purple card btw with the guys face on the hs/f.

Pop that puppy in and watch the bios screen.

I had a card that had heat sinks on both sides and it was 64MB.

What about this? Apparently his card says 128 in the BIOS on boot up.

Perhaps the BIOS isn't that intelligentt and the aperture setting is just set to 128 MB and displaying any card as having 128 MB?

Our local BB just got a big stack of PNY's in Friday and I bought one hoping to get lucky. It turned out to be one of the blue 64mb ones with Ti4280 silk screened on the circuit board. The only place on the card that has PNY on it is a tiny sticker in the middle of the fan hub. It looks like PNY got a "deal" on some cards made my another company and stuck them in PNY boxes.

I bought three from Best Buy late last week and all of them were the blue ones that look a lot like rebadged Albatrons.

I had managed to get in on the original deal and bought 4 cards from Best Buy (North Austin, TX store). Two of them turned out to be the 128 meg versions. I also got the South Austin Circuit City to price match one of their Ti4200s but it turned out to be the 64 meg 8X AGP card. I had gone with a friend to CompUSA and gotten 4 of theirs as well, and all 4 were 64 meg 8Xs.

One of the Wal Marts in town that's converting into a Supercenter had two VisionTek Ti4200 128 meg cards (old school, with slower memory) at a clearance price of $90, so I bought one of those too.

Many people are mentioning that the PNY 64 meg 8X AGP card overclocks extremely well. Does anyone know whether the VisionTek 128 meg card is also a good card for overclocking? I have a cousin who just had a birthday, and I'd like to give him either the VisionTek 128 or the PNY 64 meg (my friends, for whom I made all the purchases on the PNYs, already have dibs on the two PNY 128 megs that I found). He just loves to OC everything he can get his hands on, and right now his Gf3 Ti200 is starting to show its age. Can anyone tell me which would make a better gift for a crazy overclocking fiend?

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

Also, since none of my friends want the 64 meg 8X AG PNYs, I'm going to return them, unless any of you are still wanting to buy one of them. If so, I'll sell it for my cost + shipping, like everyone else on this forum has been doing with their extras. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks again for letting me know about this deal.

I'll trade two AGP8x 64MB models and a GeForce3 for two 128MB models if anyone managed to score two "extras" :p

That's three DX8 AKA DoomIII-capable cards for two :)

Tahrbo, I had a VisionTek 128MB Ti4200 before I got the PNY 128MB one, and my VisionTek one was able to hit 305/530 stable. Not a terribly great OC, and not as good as my PNY 128MB has it, which is 310/594. If he's an OC freak, give him the 64MB card. I am pretty sure that the PNY uses BGA (same as Ti4400/4600) memory, vs. FPGA (older tech.) on the VisionTek. The VisionTek's RAM is on both sides of the PCB, whereas the PNY's is just on one side.

Just an observation, but...

Why can't we just be satisfied with a nice deal? Why must it be better and better and better still?

I got my 64MB PNY for $80 + tax and it's great. Now I hear *someone* got a surprise 128MB card like a surprise in a Cracker Jacks box and we're all prepared to tear through all these unopened boxes to find a prize too.

Ok, somebody won the lottery, but must we all suddenly have our joy spoiled?
"Oh man, somebody got more cake than me! Me too! Me too!"
Is searching out the elusive 128 worth the time and sense of disappointment? Lets say you spend a day finding one and you succeed, I'm just gonna post a reply that mine had a Ti4600 and then you'll all say "DAMN!" and head back to the store again. :D [Evil Grin]

Just be happy, dudes you can still see your pen1s. LOL!

Got got a UPS tracking number for the 3 cards I ordered 3/20. Saved a total of $ 298.35 ($99.45 each). Hopefully one will be a 128mB 8X. Looks like my HoT Deal of the year. ;)

It's a hot deal, but I think Hot Deal of the Year goes to the Free Logitech Cordless Navigator Duo SE. I'm loving that set every time I use it!

one question:
if the label on the package sleeve states: "GF4TI4200AGP8X 64M", that means the card inside is 64M, not 128M right?
