I've watched a few of these fights between uber drivers and riders...and I gotta say, the uber drivers tend to come off really badly and deserve most of the blame in them. Completely honest. The media has these dumb headlines about how the uber driver is the victim, but really in most all of the videos the uber drivers act like asses.

The driver here was an ass.

UBER IS WORTH SIXTY NINE BILLION DOLLARS!?????!!!!
Not any more they aren't. Most tech equities (publicly or privately held) are way overvalued right now. Uber is losing over $1 Billion dollars annually and although they have plenty of cash on hand, that "growth" strategy won't work forever.

Uber doesn't care. They'll find someone else who's willing to do the work for less.
Debatable, it's more like Uber's current scorched earth business model presumes self-driving cars will be commercially feasible within 5 years tops. Of course, one leg of that model likely included stealing technology from Google (Waymo) so we'll see how that turns out. I think autonomous driving is at least 5 years out.

As for the video, the driver does come off as a bit more of an ass than Travis Kalanick until the CEO pulls out the compassionate conservatism card :D. Everybody with half a wit knows that all the bad press Uber is getting is a direct result of upper management's leadership. Where there's (A LOT of) smoke, there's fire.

So from the sounds of it, the driver is one of the early guys who also bought some cars to lease out to other drivers. There was a story on a podcast...not long ago...where a guy who did this said he was pulling in like $900 a day before the rules were changed on him. He did have to take a loss but was back to making like $300 a day operating on his own. Market conditions do change. That's just life.

I mean, yeah, it sucks, but also I know that a lot of the Super 8 or Holiday Inn Hotels also force the owners to put out money for upkeep which isn't strictly necessary. Lots of franchises in general have to put up with that stuff.

The driver obviously is emotionally angry about it. I get that sense from a lot of uber drivers but then people have unrealistic expectations for this going in too often.

Bigger problem is that Uber does have this anti-driver attitude in general. Like, they don't reward early employees. You know how early Southwestern Airlines employees are now millionaires, even if they worked as blue-collar labor as flight attendants? Uber never bothered helping these early employees. The fact that Uber is investing in self-driving technology is further insulting, because they're spending a lot of money on this unproven, and IMO impractical, technology, while neglecting their workforce and constantly trying to undermine existing workers by inducting new workers.

LMAO. "I lost 97 thousand dollars because of you!"

What an idiot.
