Hey folks, I have a dell u3011 and I'm wondering what's the best connection I can make to it? dvi or hdmi or displayport?

I'm looking to pair it with the ASUS MATRIX GTX580

so it's just a question of picking one.

Thanks!

so, if that's the case, other than audio (which is of pretty limited value itself), what's the point of including htmi or displayport slots at all?

Displayport is the highest bandwidth of those connections, HDMI the lowest.

They include multiple connectors because not everyone has every connection option. Some macs have only displayport. Some PCs don't have displayport.

Options mean larger potential customer base.

It's within the HDMI spec, but often the connection doesn't implement that high of a resolution.

No point in using it anyway -- no speakers.

I have the same monitor and run a 580 gtx.
If you use HDMI you get 1080p max resolution as others have said -- I've never been able to get a higher res using HDMI. I have my PS3 connected via that.
My computer via DL DVI and my mac through its display port both at 2560x1600. It just gives you all the options which is one reason we paid so much for one.
