U2711 gone?

Hi all,

I have been watching the price of the U2711 for the past few weeks hoping for a sale so I can justify buying it ($1000+ is out of my price range right now).

However, I was surprised to find yesterday that it was gone from the Dell site. All links to it go to "page not found", and it no longer shows up on their list of 24-30in monitors. Anyone heard about this? I'd be very disappointed if they discontinued it...

I mentioned the same thing in the big LCD thread. Not sure what happened, but it looks like it's back.

Precisely the reason why I didn't go with the U2711. It's 3 inches larger, has a bigger resolution, but is 2x the price of the U2410. I couldn't justify it, even with the upgrade spree I've been on recently.

I have one and enjoy it very much. It's not just 2x the price of the U2410 but much superior in PQ to pretty much every display in its class. One of the best on the market right now.

Agreed. I just got a friend one about a month ago and it is an absolutely gorgeous monitor.

Good point about ebay. I see it for $825 with shipping, a price very worthy of consideration.

SOrry to be paranoid, though, but why would someone sell the U2711 brand new for $250 less than list price. It's not like it's gone at sale (at all) in the past 2 months since it was released...

Can anyone explain this? If Dell was offering it at this price, I'd probably jump.

Because they drop ship in quantities from Dell.

If you lived in an Asian nation you'd only pay ~$600US for it.

Sorry, I still don't get it. Are you saying they get it from another country in bulk?

How does the warranty work if you buy it through Ebay?

Thx!

Same here plus I got a great deal on the U2410...

Hey Wag, any dead pixels? And it did come with a factory seal?

I just can't think of any way they'd be selling it this cheap!

Factory box, sealed, new, no dead/bright pixels.

Only problem is now I'm eventually going to need a new videocard as my GTX 295 is barely getting by at 2560x1440 on some of the newer games. Maybe I'll pick up a GTX 480 if/when a 512 core version arrives...

There's very little difference at 2560 between 5870 vs 480 - both makes you compromise some details in most games if you want to maintain native resolution. Get a 5970 for an extra $100 and you don't have to scale down anything anytime soon.

Really? Wouldn't the IPS in the 2410 be better than the e-IPS in the 2711?
