there should be certain artists protected by legislation prohibiting remakes of their songs.

Hendrix is definitely among them.

Uhh... he covered that song...
ok well. bad example. :p

U2's cover of All Along the Watchtower is OK. It's on the Rattle and Hum Live CD.

DMB sucks anyway.

Smashing Pumpkin's version of Landslide is better than that goat-lady's original. Not all covers are bad.

How about Dream Theater's cover of Rush's La Villia Strangiato? Now that's good stuff.

U2's version is closer to the original than Hendrix's. IMHO, it's not as bad as MB says it is, but Bob's versions (both live with The Band and studio) are better.

FWIW, of the many covers of his songs, Dylan has said that Hendrix's cover of Watchtower is the only one that improves on his version.

Johnny Cash's cover of "Personal Jesus" ftw.

Worst Cover Ever. I thought my ears were going to start bleeding.

The man was almost dead when he recorded that. Cut him some slack.

Besides The Man in Black had more musical ability than U2 or any of the current crop of musicians ever will.

 for Alanis Morrissette's cover of "Crazy" by Seal. Geez, it was like a bad Duran Duran parody or something.

I think it's teh win.

I like it too.

I think U2 needs to stop, period.

A statement that was as true in 1981 as it is now.

I liked them up to around The Joshua Tree, but think they've gradually metamorphosed into fecal matter since then.

That title goes to Korn's "Another Brick in the Wall."

Hey 99.9% of his stuff is great, but you can't hit every ball out of the park. Agreed on his musical ability being greater than every member of U2 (and Korn) combined.

I like Dylan, and I know that Hendrix is talked about far too much, but it's deserving. When Dylan heard Hendrix's version he was pretty much blown away and admitted it was Hendrix's song now... or then or whatever.

U2 on the other hand, needs to hang it up. I get the feeling though they are going to be making records, political speeches, and annoying ipod commercials for the next 50 years.

Oh HEYALL no. Korn's ABITW cover is awesome. And this from a big long-time Floyd fan.

Ra's cover of "Every Little Thing She Does" is above average. As a Police fan, they did an OK job.

Worst Cover Ever = Madonna's version of American Pie.

My rules of covers are:
1. If you're going to cover it, make it better.
2. Don't cover the Beatles.
3. Don't cover Elvis.
