U.S. Works Up Plan for Using Nuclear Arms

I'm not sure what to think....
Should I be scared that they are drawing them up now or more scared that they haven't been drawn up already?

Certainly doesn't seem like anything new. I'm sure we've had plans for using nuclear weapons since we first had them and while the Cold War was raging.

First of all, Bill Arkin is the epitomy of the armchair general. Secondly, how the fvck did he (and only he) get a copy of the report if it's supposed to be top secret?

Sure hope they don't make use of nuclear weapons routine. I think their use should be taboo, unless we are in danger of a nuclear strike.
If we go out and use tactical nukes on caves, and other, that will give encouragement and permission for our enemies to do it as well.
Also, we need to stop nuclear weapons at their sources, esp help the Russians with security, because with the amount of trade we have, and our relatively open borders will make it impossible to stop them on our borders.

Oh look, they want to reduce it to 2000 warheads in the next decade. How sweet! Now they will only be able to wipe out about 5 continents. 😀

Good grief people.....we've had plans like this since the end of WWII. It's nothing new, just a bunch of media types tring to create ratings/sales.

<< But why China? >>

Hmmm... How about this?

A growing global nuclear power that retains philosophies and leadership that caused the purges and deaths of perhaps 25 to 50 million of their own citizens? You have to deal with them, but TRUSTING them? Naa... play nice nice kissy kissy, and hope you never have to use the plans you had BETTER have made.

"But why China? "

They were so nice to us with that incident where their pilot nearly took down our listening plane. We're hardly friends, besides if China ever decided to retake Taiwan we'd all be in trouble.

Very well put

We need plans because when the report comes in that their nukes are airborn at us or one of our allies, that's not the time to start making plans, it's time to execute plans.

"Specifically, the NPR lists a military confrontation over the status of Taiwan as one of the scenarios that could lead Washington to use nuclear weapons."

If China takes back Taiwan with conventional weapons (that is, non-nuclear), should the U.S. still resort to using its nuclear weapon?
