I've heard it is more like a southern state down there like Tennessee.
Primary job in Rockford is the Chrysler plant which was idle from 2008 to recently when it re-opened to make the new Dodge Dart.
/cliped the BS that has nothing to do with the thread.
The Chrysler plant is NOT the primary job for Rockford. it does help its back up and running (it was always open just not full capacity) 3 shifts again.
Southern IL is like a different state. Its a huge culture difference with Northern IL.
I have found the people are far far more polite, they work hard, and will help you if they can.
but its a poor area. My dad loves to fish and usually the catch and release's. People will ask for his fish if he is doing that. To some down there that is the main source of meat (same with hunting).
Garage sales are cheap, Same with things like boats (the are all over down there), 4 wheeler, etc. I wish i had a truck and trailer. every time i go down i see 4 wheeler cheap. i wouldn't mind picking up some small ones for my kids.
My dad is getting old. He hates mowing his yard. He had a guy come up and offer to mow his yard, trim the trees, weed out teh flower area for $20. plus the guy took away the trash! Dad said that was not uncommon either.
I love going down to visit. If it wasn't for my kids being in a great school, gymnastics and my ex wife (no jobs down t here so no chance on talking her into moving) i would move in a instant.
