Grr my mom is in Iraq. I don't feel comfortable with the Iraqis being in charge of her safety. Great.. whose stupid idea was this.

This is actually good news and yet another step in the right direction -- which is all we can really ask/hope for with the debacle that is Iraq. Some of you people are so blinded by your partisan hatred that you wouldn't recognize actual progress in Iraq if it walked up and kicked you in the dick.

Baby Steps to the door... Baby steps get on the bus...

I concur.

I have a friend in Iraq that acts as a private security agent. She spent several years in Iraq in the US military, and went back as a private security contractor. She's in Baghad, and less random huge bombings that EVERYONE there is at risk for, she feels relatively safe, free to go out and socialize with the community etc. More so than some cities here in the states, because she says "less huge bombings" other violence isn't really that bad.

She says it's actually become fun and nice there, and loves the people, and the people seem to love her.

We have clearly succeeded in our mission. Congrats to everyone on a job well done and a happy new year to the coalition.
You are the world's gayest cheerleader, you know that? You're just like W in his undergrad years, shaking the pom pomps, shaking your ass, assembling the human pyramid for your ingrateful Iraqi subjects. Lame, soooooo lame. And everyone knows it.

Happy new year! :gift:

Thank you for the comparison. Maybe I can also be President someday and seize the nation back from Obama's socialist cronies.

He hasn't even taken office yet, moron. DealMonkey is right anyway.

This is excellent news! We are one step closer to leaving that shithole. I don't see why we don't just pack up and leave immediately and let the Iraqis fend for themselves.

Vacates the palace? Holy misleading titles batman - we still have 12,000 PLUS troops stationed in the green zone, and they aren't going anywhere fast. All that's happened here is the checkpoint security of the 'zone' has been 'officially' turned over to the Iraqi forces - with an assload of American soldiers there to 'consult' them.

Also, we took the American flag down from the palace - we win!

If this gets you excited, then so be it.

To the troops, I wish a happy new year. Thanks for doing the right thing.

Well said O.

To those who chose not to join the military, I wish a happy new year. Thanks for doing the right thing.

I've handed out clothes to the poor and needy while implementing my nation's foreign policies. I've provided medical care, at no cost to them, as well. What have you done?

I have much more respect for a Liberal Democrat that serves in the Peace Corps, than someone who spouts out how 'ignorant' I am because I serve in uniform.

He hates the US military and anyone "dumb enough" to sign up to be a part of the evil we do -- which apparently includes me because I'm a soldier. He makes that known around here every chance he has. He's one step away from spitting on soldiers at the airports... seriously.

And yes, I do believe he's a US citizen. So, while he certainly has the right to hold such twisted beliefs, we also have the right to consider him a total douchebag and tell him to go fuck himself whenever he opens his mouth to express them...

Now if only we knew what that mission was.

They greeted us as the great liberators remember? Cheney told us so.

They did.... and then it was mismanaged and went to hell....

took 5 years...maybe the wheels are finally back on the cart (don't even say what cart...i know you want to)

Say what you want about the whole issue... I just got back.... most Iraqi's wanted us to leave...but still always managed to say they were glad Saddam was gone....

I love running into people like him at bars while on Leave..... Me...and my fellow idiots who join ed the military.... assist him off the floor after we put him there....because no one else in the bar will after they open their mouth....

Free country to say what you want...and a free country for someone to pop you in the mouth for it while others look away....
