U.S. Subways on Terror Alert

On Thursday, the FBI issued an alert to state and local law enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida supporters in the United States may use nerve gas to poison subway systems in New York, Washington D.C. and other major cities before or during the fourth of July.

This activity is allegedly intended to bring America to its knees on its Independence Day.'
 
I've seen this one coming for a very long time. It's almost a given that something will happen on July 4th.
 
no it's a given people think someone will happen on any american holiday. was spetember 11th a holiday? al qaeda is not going to attack when everyone expects it, plain and simple.

These terrorists are going to add insult to injury by picking specific targets/dates for specific reasons. You think that they just randomly picked the WTC, just for the hell of it? They were trying to impact our economy. And if they were to attack on July 4th (independence day) it would suggest symbolically that this country is not free and that we have to live in fear.
 
I think you're overestimating these people. You know how long they planned for the WTC attack? Years. You think that now they can say "well, that attack worked pretty well, now we can keep doing other attacks like that every few months, especially after they just blew the crap out of our country".

You people are a lot more worried than you have to be.
 
i didn't say they picked their targets randomly, i am saying they pick non-obvious dates. if you think they will attack on july 4th then you might as well think they are going to attack every single year on easter, christmas, halloween, thanksgiving, fourth of july and every september 11th now. and maybe throw in some president days for fun. so tell me, if we all already know these days then why would they attack then? this isn't a game to them, they want to kill as many people as possible and so picking a day that is not those is better. if you can make up the day in your head before they have even planned it then i doubt it's gonna happen.

I'm not worried at all. I live in NYC, if i get killed.....big deal. Game Over. However, i think that it is foolish to say that there is no possible way that they had planned another attack for July 4th. I'm just saying that it is not out of the question that we have another event like this.

Well, in theory i'm sure i could sit down and try to pick the most logical date and place based on a variety of factors. 9/11 wasn't obvious because no one knew it was coming, however, the number 911 itself does have particuluar meaning in this country. So don't even try to tell me that they're just pulling dates out of their ass.
 
I work in NYC and for those who don't live or work here you probably don't know what we are going through.

Whenever I go through the Lincoln Tunnel, I never know if that will be the last time I go through it. I'm not terrified or anything but it is something we have to live with. Whenever I take the subway, I am always a little more suspicious of the arab looking guy or the random suitcase that might be lying around. I know we are due again but with what and when?

It really puts us NYers at unease.
 
yes they may have been planning the WTC attack for 5 years but it doesnt mean that was the only thing they were planning nor does it mean all attacts takes years to plan

Growing up in Southern California with the occaisional ground shake is more than a little similar, never knowing whether it's just going to rattle the dishes or be the Big One that wipes out the entire coastline (even before the tidal wave hits). Eventually you do get fatalistic about it.

So where did I move to? Seattle -- which has its own killer fault line. Kind of amusing seeing the locals' reaction to the two major quakes we've had here in the last decade, people were totally freaked out for days.
 
Two things came to mind when reading the thread title:

Damn, now I'll have to get my sandwiches somewhere else.

and...

Who wants to bet some stupid terrorist gets confused and tries to bomb a Subway Sandwich shop?
