Effigy of US soldiers burned along with US Flag at a 'peace rally' :|
I suppose these guys claim to support the troops....

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot????

That's disgusting.

I'm pretty sure it's a very very small minority of extreme idiots. At least I hope so.

Bummer is, this will get overseas to our peeps in Iraq & Afganistan. :|

Looks like they also burned a flag. They're fabric and stuffing. It's Constitutionally protected free speech. You may not like it, but it worked to get your attention. Too bad you missed their meaning.

I didn't see any reports of dead or injured people. Get over your BS and your phoney indignation until you care as much about those Americans who are really dying in your Criminal In Chief's illegal exercise in Iraq. :frown:

who cares, it is a couple of 'nobodies'. congratulations on giving the attention they are seeking.

I'd say Facebook is doing that.

Otherwise, way to go (golf clap) attack the OP instead of those idiots or Facebook for allowing the photos to remain up.

Of course you are perfectly OK with actual soldiers actually dying for a false war for your hero. :cookie:

the protestors have freedom of speech to do what they please, which is purely symbolic. making a big deal out of it is the problem i see here.

i would execute my first amendment rights and beat the living sh|it out of him. i would go to jail with a big fricken smile on my face too.

Nobody, not one poster so far, is saying that they don't have the "right" to do that. Why keep bringing up the free speech thing?

Won't you condem the burning of the soldier effigy?

It shows the vitriol this country is feeling towards itself. We?ll soon find we?re too busy dealing with ourselves to care about far off countries in the Middle East. After all, how do we fight a war before getting our house in order first?

i condemn the false war. if it were not for that this thread would not exist.

Can anyone give an argument for why this is not okay? Who cares if they don't like the troops? If I saw one getting burned in effigy today, I wouldn't think twice about it... this halo around our "men and women in uniform" is one I'll never understand. Remember: they are in Iraq not to protect freedom, but because they are getting paid lots and lots of money. (way more then the average for their level of education)

I beg to differ. The average soldier makes about $1k per month. If your "they" refers to the contractors, Bush family, Cheney family, etc, then I'd agree with you.

I don't really have anything besides anecdotal evidence but I am pretty sure those that go into the military or join private contractors often times do make a big buck. There are also many other benefits such as breaks on various taxes, scholarships and healthcare. Anyway, I am pretty sure we've got some active duty and veterans on the board. Maybe they can chime in?

Perhaps, but I think I was more questioning was the statement that they couldn't get equal compensation outside the military. Perhaps if there were more concrete evidence....

What a bunch of fscking idiots, all they do is give ammunition to the nuts on the Right like ProJo who will use this to demonize all those against the war. Do they really think they'll sway someone to their side of the argument by doing stupid sh!t like that?

WTF is wrong with you people that are making excuses for this kind of behavior? Fine, you don't agree with the war, but its still ok to critize some of your fellow anti bush, anti war zealots when they go overboard.

I'm sure that if there was a thread about some rednecks from Alabama burning a black man in effigy I doubt that you A-holes would be saying that this is no big deal.

Agreed. Stupid people like that should just go away.

I respect the service of our military personnel. They volunteered to put their lives on the line for our nation, and they're duty bound to follow the orders of those in command.

I have no respect , whatsoever, for their Criminal In Chief who has violated the very Constitution he swore to defend and abused his power as their commander by leading them into an illegal war based on lies.
Remember: they are in Iraq not to protect freedom, but because they are getting paid lots and lots of money. (way more then the average for their level of education)
They're not getting paid nearly enough if they die before they can spend it. They're not getting paid nearly enough if they're wounded and handicapped for life. They're not getting paid nearly enough if they're left high and dry with inadequate, incompetent or nonexistent care for their physical and mental needs arising from their service once they return from duty.

More Americans might respect what our troops do if we reinstituted a mandatory draft that put them or their sons and daughers in harm's way for their nation's legitimate defense. That may also be a way to get more legislators to think much longer before handing command of our military to incompetent traitorous like this President and his criminal adminstration.

Protected speech but I very strongly disagree with their manner of expressing opposition to war. The soldiers didn't start this war, if they want to burn someone in effigy it should be W, Rummy or Cheney.

Not you, I was mainly referring to Harvey and Alien, and you're probably right, Steeplerot probably organized the whole thing.

Edit - BTW, I condemn this kind of crap from both sides, I put these morons right up there with those on the right that will call anyone that is against the war a traitor.

This from the same guy that believes "no news" = tide ah turnin in Iraq because of troop surge. I suppose a causal vs. correlational explanation of reality would do no good here.
