U.S. racing to help Russians trapped in sub

Ohh, so they're agreeing to let us help them this time?

Sure, but probably just like last time, only after they've wasted 4 days trying impotently to do the job themselves.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/08/05/russia.sea/index.html

"The AS-28 mini-submarine, itself a rescue vessel, ran into trouble on Thursday when it became snagged by fishing nets and some sort of cable during a military exercise off the Kamchatka peninsula"

so a sub got taken out by fishing nets?!?!? i hope theres more to this story than that

It is a mini-rescue sub which explains how fishing nets could tangle it up....don't picture some huge Red October-esque bohemoth.

Japan said it had sent a vessel carrying submarine rescue gear and three other ships to join salvage efforts, but they are unlikely to arrive at the scene until early next week.

What...did they send them slow boat to...errr...nevermind.

yeah, what were they waiting for? they could've kept this a secret a few more hours...wait the blame will fall on the US for arriving too late...personally, I am surprised Putin asked for help at all.

It seems we should be able to have a rescue sub of some kind that is loaded in an aircraft and air dropped on site over water or at least attachable to a Chinook or something to be carried from land out to the site.

not if you believe the theory that Kursk collided with Toledo which was later serviced in Norway 😉

wikipedia is a great great website.

It's pretty good, although it often falls victim to its mandatory neutral point of view (NPOV).

For instance, when they cover something that is an obvious hoax or scam, the neutral point of view dictates that you can't prejudge it, so you must refrain from suggesting that it's an obvious scam, and the final Wikipedia story gives credibility to an otherwise obvious scam/hoax. As long as *someone* believes it, a viewpoint must be presented and held at the same level of plausibility as the rest to preserve the NPOV.

The story about John Titor comes to mind.

That little sub looks identical to the ones that the much larger India-class submarines carry. It probably is. I remember reading about this stuff in the mid 80's. It's probably lurking nearby.

edit: Wiki says the India class subs are scrapped, but this minisub is what they carried.

What's wrong with you guys? These sailors are going to die if they don't get help. What's with the attitude? Kursk or not. They asked multiple countries for help and hopefully they get it in time. The Cold War with Russia is over.

Um, John Titor is real.
