Finally a great victory for US furniture manufacturers.

Link to Yahoo

The big retailers are cribbing as always.

But why single out China, I think Thailand ,Indonesia,Korea, Scandinavia should join the list.

The article says that $4.4 billion worth of furniture was bought in the US in 2002 , 52 percent came from other countries. Imagine what could have been different if the 52 percent figure was reduced to just half

so you always buy the most expensive furniture then ?

most of the "blame" for globalisation and jobs moving away to low-wage countries is because the consumer wants to have a price that is as low as possible, and if he has any shares he also wants those to have a very high dividend (profit).

so in the end the people do it all to themselves (no surprises there, thats appearently the way we're built)

I have a 2500 sqft shop with american made Rockwell table saws(2), shapers, etc etc etc. I make my own usually, with domestic cut wood like red oak.:) Although I have an affinity for austrailian lacewood)But when it comes time to buy of course I only buy american real wood furniture. If their is a choice I always put my limited funds back in our economy not red chinas. Then the worker can spend the money here which may trickle back to me someday. And even better it builds strong communities in the USA having a thiveing middle class.
