ulfwald, yeah sure we have a US army based here but thats through NATO, but right now it wouldnt realy matter if we had your army or not, like who would want this peace of rock I live on?

But what realy is bothersome is your attitute when something happens to a single soldier in your army you get all full of testasteron and start to behave like a drunken bum at a football game with one beer in one and and screaming "YEAAAH KILL THOSE MOFOOOS YEAAAH". Not what you would call a civilized act of behaviour.

What we icelanders look at your army for in nato is that you are the big dumb guy who does all the work, when some fighting is going on we just send te strongest of us who doesnt ask questions and is willing to spend billions of dollars bombing some country that is not related to them in any way.

Despite some mistaken perceptions to the contrary, our military's primary purpose is to kill the enemy and destroy his will to fight. Now, if the fact that we have a powerful military discourages some would-be attacker to rethink their attack plans, all the better.

Also, it is NOT a military man's (or woman's) job or duty to die for their country. As Patton said (paraphrase), "It's your job to make that other poor, dumb, b@stard die for HIS country."

Saying that the military's role is to keep the peace is foolish, and simply a way to soothe the consciences and sensibilities of the "touchy-feely", I want my rights, but don't want to fight for them, left-wing wimpoids. The State Department and the diplomats are paid to keep the peace. When they screw up, and bad crap happens, and it usually does... like war, etc, they call in the military to clean up the mess.

Once again, the military's job is to kill sh!t and break things. To kill and break things quickly, efficiently, and with the least amount of ordanance and manpower expended as possible.

That we rarely allow our military to function in this capacity is the responsibility of the Civilian leaders.

You pitiful, weak-ass, sorry b@stard! It's attitudes like yours that are the EXACT reason many people here at home want to pull out of NATO.

I can't believe that you would hold such a selfish and cold opinion of the very people who spend their treasure and risk their lives to protect you and your way of life. You make me sick.

I am say that the military has been turned into a police force. There primary purpose has become keeping the peace. They are trained to destroy the enemie but that is not there only purpose.

So I´m not allowed to voice my own opinions unless you start to judge me.

I see your freedom of speech is still not fully working.

Freedom of speech is working, but are we not allowed to voice our disgust over you attitude? You voice you feelings about OUR military, which are less than favorable, but when we respond back with equal disgust over those comments, you get angry.

Czar, you are a brat, so STFU.

hmmm,
Please don't flame for what I'm about to say, I'm not american but I do think that I'm entitled to my opinion.

A lot of hostility going on here, seems you all want to unchain a war or something.
Sorry I am not informed but what was the boat doing at Yemen anyway? It isn't exactly near the US... Maybe the US is pushing its will a bit too hard on the rest of the world, the cold war is over you know... The USA is undoubtedly the most powerful nation in the world but your "protection" that you provide us with is against who exactly? In Irak thousands of children are dying because of the sanctions that the USA enforced against that country, that makes them at least partially responsible (of course I'm not supporting Saddam but the sanctions are hurting the wrong people). Those children have nothing to do with america... :disgust:

For example : Israel. I have the feeling the whole thing is going to escalate again to blodshed. For what? A piece of land that in their religious books is rightfully theirs. It still astounds me that a war can be unchained just because of a religion (I'm atheist BTW, just as the majority is either that or agnostic of W-Europe, I'm saying this because some of you people have already involved religion in this discussion and the US is so damn religious for a modern country, weird).
I see I'm beginning to ramble here so I'll stop.

If you disagree, and I'm sure you do, let me know ;)

It would not surprise me if Israel had something to do with the bombing. After all the U.S is gaining some sympathy towards the cause of the Palistinians. Israel does not want to give up land in peace talks and would do anything to break them up. And Israel knows that if US property gets terrorized they'll automatically look at the Arabs. The bombing also seemed well planned by a gov't, not by a loose band of actual terrorists.

Plus it is election time and everything coming up....hell i blame Canada

"the Geneva Convention. The convention was created to protect citizens, prisoners of war, etc."

Rule are make to be broken, and I don't think there is a country that hasn't broken the Geneva Convention.

Well I'm angry. You have your opinions though...and they're just that. Opinions. They suck...but they're you're opinions.

Korean yuppies are angry at the United States because they feel as if though the Americans were there to pillage their towns, and rape their women. Yes, there was a slight incident that involved some U.S. Soldiers and the killing of a whole village, regardless if there were innocent people among the enemy. The U.S., insted of covering this up like the world expects them to do, investigated it in full. It is a black mark in American History. What Korean yuppies fail to realize is, no U.S. Army in South Korea=KOREA! Without them, there would be no north and South korea, just Korea.

Now Iceland, a strategic spot during world war II. Without the U.S. and other allied countries, I think Iceland's native tongue would be German!

If you attack the U.S...you're in some big sh*t. So Czar...if one Icelander soldier dies at the hand of terrorists, you're saying Iceland wouldn't have the guts or pride to stand up for their fallen patriots? Tsk Tsk...

NFS4,

There aren't any F-22s in operation, but the F-15E will suffice:)

You know, this may not have happened if the US hadn't spent $80 billion over the last 30 years arming the Israelis to the teeth. Of course Arabs have every right to kill Americans while the Israelis killing them are financed by the US

Actually I just read on MSNBC that the Israeli nuclear weapons dumps are guarded by American anti-aircraft batteries. Talk about hypocracy, a 1000 Iraqi children a month die because of the embargo over there, because the Americans arn't satisfied that all the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction have been destroyed. Yet the US pretends that Israel doesnt even have any, even though they helped the Israelis make them.

You know its 100% because of past US policies that the Arabs hate Americans. Even Bin Laden is a US creation, he worked for the CIA, back during the campaigns against the Rudssians in Afghanistan.

Czar,

<< Not what you would call a civilized act of behaviour. >>

Nor is blasting a 20 foot by 40 foot hole in the side of an American destroyer. If this was a terrorist attack, then it was an act of war, which must be dealt with accordingly. If the US were to just sit back and say, "Oh, well. Sometimes soldiers die; it's a consequence of serving the people" then what kind of message would that send to others comtemplating a similar attack?

Ok, here is a simple solution. We just pull the US forces out of every other country, cut off all foriegn aid, ccall in all the debts owed to us. Then we pull out of NATO, and let these other nations fend for themselves.

Then let's see how many come crawling begging us to provide "police" services again.

Everyone views Israel as the innocent party in the middle east. At one time the jews were oppressed and victomized. Now however if you look at what is taking place over there, it seems its the Israelies who are doing the repressing. It causes a natural uprising when you are knocked down and it happens everywhere even here at home(Los Angeles). I feel the U.S, Britain, Canada and whoever gets dragged into it cannot win. It's sad that it is past the point of diplomacy and discussion over there. There will be more deaths and injuries over land and religion to come, eventual peace keeping missions and more of our soldiers suffering by the hand of hatred.

DABANSHEE:
Why is it that whenever anything negative happens in this world (such as the attack on this ship), you blame Israel?

Well said Dabanshee at least someone out there knows what the hell is going on regarding israelis and arabs. And as for ulfwald sorry about this i'm a newbie here so i dont want you to think this is a flame but just my opinion but hell yes maybe the united states should stop its freaking liberal idea of sticking its nose in everybodys business and that nation building idea that bush spoke of last night in the debates plus it would save the american taxpayer a ton of money.
nation building doesnt work and never has, people have their own culture and mindset whats right for us isnt necessarily right for them its only right for the stupid liberal pseudo-intellectuals who think they know it all. As for the palestinians what the hell do you expect them to do sit year after year while people die one by one at the hands of their occupiers?

Dolphins, I couldn't agree more. I HONESTLY believe that we need to take care of our own before worrying about others.

People, let's not forget that at least 4 US sailors lost their lives today (many wounded and missing), and that this thread is dedicated to that topic. Remember that these young men (and maybe women) were simply doing their jobs and duty.

The main reason (other than fuel) that this destroyer was in that particular port is that the US is trying to reach out to the government of Yemen and normalize relations with theat country. I suspect that there are lots of folks over in that region who would prefer that Yemen NOT be on a civil footing with the US, and that this MIGHT be the motive behind the attack.

Irregardless, would you guys do me a favor and say a prayer (or at least think some good thoughts) for those that lost their lives, were injured, are missing today.... and for their families.

Thanks,
